Our Marching Band, including Poms, and Rifles, has won numerous awards this year, under the very capable direction of Mr. Joe Owens. It won second place in the Veiled Prophet Fair Parade, which included a $3,000 prize. In Class A competition at O ' Fallon, Illinois, the band placed first in Drum Major, Brass Section, and Percussion competitions. It tied for first in Woodwind competition with Salem High School. In class A competition at Washington, Mo., it placed first in Parade and fifth in Field competition. It performed at St. Louis Bush Stadium prior to the third game of the National League Championship. It placed third in Marching Band competition in Alton in October. The organization planned a trip to the Blue Bonnet Bowl in Houston, Texas, over the New Year. 13
