A VERY SPECIAL WEEK HOMECOMING 1983 Homecoming 1983 was a week that will be long remembered by the students of Granite City Senior High School. The whole student body showed dn abunddnce of spirit ond enthusidsm, dnd rrtdde it a great week. Throughout the entire week, and the weeks before that, the clubs at school began to organize floats for the big homecoming parade. This year ' s theme was, Make the Blue Devils See Red. The cheerledders seemed to convey this message the best, receiving first place in the float contest. The guys and girls that were elected to the homecoming court had dresses made dnd suits fitted for the big night. Mr. Ron Pennell, heod of the speech department, and his speech students worked hdrd on this yeor ' s ploy, West Side Story.” Traditional homecoming mums were sold with the slogan, Don’t be a bum, buy her a mum. On Wednesday and Thursdoy nights the Homecom- ing Ploy was presented to on enthusiostic crowd. The coronation followed. Miss Louri Machino was crowned queen and Thomas Adamitis was named os Royol Escort. Fridoy was the day that everyone was looking forward to, ond when it arrived, it was realized by many seniors that this was their last year, and it was the last homecoming of their high school years. Many students were dismissed early from school to work on floats and to see the porode. The evening thot followed contained the troditional Homecoming football game. Unfortunately the Warriors fell short to the Blue Devils, with a final score of 22-0. The Homecoming spirit was not lost, however. The week ended with d memorable dance sponsored by the Student Council. The week that was — Homecoming 1983 — will hold many pleasant memories for the students dt G.C.H.S.
