1983 NORTH SPRING CAROUSEL The 1983 Spring Carousel Court Honoring the senior girls was extraspecial this year at North High School, simply because it was North ' s final one. As the processional began, excitement grew. Yet at the same time there was sadness, for the girls knew this could be the last time they would see many of their friends. On May 13, 1983, Rita Harrel, retiring Homecoming Queen of 1982, crowned the new Spring Carousel Queen, Miss Allayna Beatty. Attendants to the Queen were Michelle Loftus, Carolyn Horbelt, Trina Davis, Marilyn Horbelt, Jenniffer Papa, Lori Halbert and Kimberly Smith. Kim Mushill, junior vice-president of Silver Spirit, served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. “It really felt special to be a part of something that the girls will always remember,’’ stated Kim. The rifle and flag squads were the first to perform. Silver Spirit entertained with a skit that traveled through time. Other performances included songs by the mixed chorus, a routine by the pom-pon squad, and a dance by the cheerleaders to the tune of “Greased Lightening . The junior skit poked fun at many seniors, as they looked back over their high school years. It also included a few members of the faculty in the jokes! The seniors also performed a Senior Dance for the first time at a North Spring Carousel. Twelve couples waltzed to the tune of “Can I Have This Dance?” as the audience watched. The evening ended with the traditional Maypole Dance done by the girls, themselves. As this was North’s last Spring Carousel, it held a special meaning not only for the senior girls, but for all those who took part or attended. 16
