Principal Lawrence C. McCauley Our principal, Mr. Lawrence C. McCauley, graduated from Granite City Senior High School in 1925. He was president of the senior class, president of the Literary Society, and he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. After graduation he worked at Commonwealth Steel for two years. Mr. McCauley graduated from the University of Missouri in 1931, with a Bach- elor’s degree in Journalism, after having lettered three years in football. He taught at Washington school and Central before coming to the high school in 1935, where he coached and taught English. During World War II, Mr. McCauley served in the Navy as a gunnery Officer. After his discharge, he coached football, baseball and tennis at the Senior High School. His football team became Conference Champions in 1946, and his base- ball team took the State Championship in 1948. In 1951, while serving as Dean of Boys, he received his Master’s degree from Washington University in Administration and Guidance. He has been Principal of the Senior High since 1954. He is retiring this year after 41 years in public education. 25
