The work involves the draw- ing of layouts, typing write-ups, other articles, and the naming of every under- classman ' s picture taken. Besides or- ganizing a 248 page annual yearbook, the staff members sell senior name cards and underclassmen pictures. The yearbook sponsor is Mr. Robert Johnson. Sfr i ona l ) 243 At one time in the industrious and pop- ulated town of Granite City 750 young innocent ' 68ers roamed the streets as beginning Freshmen. Yes, Coolidge and Prather had been invaded and this class continued the long established rivalry between the two schools. Coolidge ' s football Braves went undefeated and cheerleaders Robyn, Sheila, and Vicki led them on. The spirit for Prather ' s Chiefs came from Connie, Kathy, Debbie, Donna, and Dena. Prather was known for its Fightin and Feudin , but they had a hard time trying to com- pare with Coolidge ' s Battle of the Dames - remember Diane and Gloria? Don ' t forget the crowded halls, our pile ups, slam books, scandal sheets, love chains, Saturday afternoon Y clubs, and all the other traditions of Jr. High. The Tom-Tom and Wigwam were the respective school papers. Stan headed G.A.A. at Coolidge, and Tana at Prather. June of 1965 came sooner than we thought was possible, and as not so innocent Sophomores, we saw ourselves beginning High School. At last Prather and Coolidge were united and we formed the great class of ' 68. We were caught up in the maze of activities. Red Peppers, language Clubs, and student activities constantly kept us on the move. Jim led our class as President. We were the lucky class that was gypped out of the prom. Deb and Steve portrayed the leading characters in The Thread That Runs So True -our play. Never forget that last scene — SMOOCH! Who could ever forget the girls football teams when Butkus broke her nose? Remember all the picnics and birthday parties in the cafeteria. Above all, NEVER forget those senior guys! Collinsville Park was the big thing and the Turtle club was for the In Crowd. Dena, June, Kathy, Donna, and Jean were chosen cheerleaders and Bill and Ernie became vice-presidents of the Student Body. 244 wrr Time was passing quickly and soon we were Juniors. Roselyn led our massive troops. Tube, the whole Tube, and Nothing but the Tube was the theme of our hilarious Junior Follies. Student Body elections were the most exciting ever! Our prom, Carousel , was gorgeous. Deb and Mary as co-chairmen had the most unique decorations possible. Never forget the night we decorated for it. Class colors were green and yellow and our class flag flew inside on our boat excursion — Oh that boat trip! School spirit was really the greatest. Don ' t forget trips to Pontiac, Champaign, and that double-header at Cahokia. Our class was noted for its swing- ing slumber parties. Girl ' s summer soft- ball teams were wild. Then, suddenly .... an- ticipations realized. We were SENIORS !! Dave led our class with Pat, Jean, and Donna helping out. Bill was Student Body president. Never forget the panic over the delay on Red Books. The girls almost didn ' t make it through that first week of school. Falls, mini- skirts, and long hair really made a hit. (Ex- cept with the Administra- tion) — (Five Hours!) Dottie and Bill were Har- vest Queen and King. Never forget Homecoming week - the play, The Wizard of Oz , the bonfire, the game? Remember our 10 minute long pep parade-nice policeman. Gary and Mike were Mr. T. D. and Mr. Roadrunner, and Linda was chosen Miss School Spirit. John was captain of the first Warrior soccer team. Our great matmen broke state sectional record by winning their 15th straight Sectional title. Debbie, June, Linda, and Betty reigned as their queens. Gary and Dempsey acted as co-captains and Paul and Dempsey went to state. Jeff led our mighty cagers. Oh, that Madison game! Spring sports started and Duck was still in there pitching. The prom theme was Moonlight and Roses — sigh, Romance. Mr. King chose The Bad Seed as our Senior class play. Never forget May Day and all the glamour. Remember the trips — New York, Chicago, New Orleans. Remember always the great times of high school, of the class of ' 68. Remember 245 l Jote drom the dddit or A Now the 67- ' 68 school year is only a wonderful memory in the minds of the students of G.C.H.S. This year has been characterized by joys, sorrows, struggles and accomplishments. New friends have been made, and friendships of old, enriched. Underclassmen are still engulfed in the many activities of high school, but for the seniors, all this is past. They have become the graduating class of ' 68. It is to the seniors that the editor and the staff of the WARRIOR dedicate their book. We hope this edition will help them to feel forever a part of Granite High. 248 WALSWORTH Mi, (ilia,.
