JUre stling The great G. C. Warriors’ Wrestling team again had a successful season. The coaches, William Schmitt and Bob Whelan, are known throughout the state for their teams. The 1960 team had one of the toughest schedules in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area and again dominated the Normal Invitational Tournament at Normal, Illinois. This year Granite City was host for the Freshman-Sophomore Tournament and won it for the third consecutive year. We hope that every year Granite may have a team equal to this year’s. They competed in two tournaments during the sea- son and captured the championship at the Dupo tournament. In conference play, the Warriors came in third, behind the strong Collinsville and Belleville teams. The team was a blend of experience and youth including a number of seniors combined with some talented sophomores. Yearbook Since 1954 many students have participated in an organization called “Year- book. They have worked exceedingly hard, not only in class, but outside of school, meeting at different members houses or places where they could work together to produce just such a book. All members contribute their time equal share of work by making layouts, identifying pictures, and by doing write-ups, which are prepared for each page. This requires much hard work and only by working together with full cooperation and diligence, can they put out a book correctly written. “The Warrior,” Granite High’s yearbook of 1961, has been patiently worked on by the adviser, Mr. Robert Johnson; editor, George Monken; assistant editor, Mary Adams; business manager, Bob Summers; and all the other members of the staff.
