Regardless of whether we were winning or losing, these girls kept the spectators applauding and yelling for the Warriors. Much of the Warriors success was due to their energetic cheering. ' Boad of Ehcdwn The Board of Education is a group of well-established, intelligent men, who preside over the many school problems presented by the schools of this commun- ity. The Board has done wonders for our high school and has helped us with our new additions. These will give us twenty new classrooms, a new machine shop, and a welding shop, when completed. The Board has supported the school in all its endeavors and they deserve our sincere thanks for their help and leadership. Dr. Harold M. Kaiser ojuL j4uut. SitfmfdvUait Dr. Harold M. Kaiser, our Superintendent, is a valuable as- set to the school and the community because of his competent lead- ership and his radiant personality. He constantly strives to develop the highest possible level of education in our school system, and also to maintain the present high standards of our school. With- out the earnest help and supervision of this remarkable individual our school could not prosper as it has. I Mr. Russell D. Lnder the watchful eyes of coaches, William Schmitt and Joe Fedora, the Warrior wrestling team was again tops in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. In 1959, they tackled one of their toughest schedules in recent years, and concluded a highly successful season by winning first place at the Normal Invita- tional Tournament at Normal. Illinois. Again, this year. Granite City was host for the Freshman-Sophomore Tourna- ment and the Sectional Wrestling Tournament. We of Granite City Senior High School are confident that next year the Warriors will again have a wonderful year. Look Dave, I got a manicure ! Why didn’t you go around instead of climbing over ! The Warriors won the Regional Champion- ship by defeating Collinsville by seven points. They also won the Sectional by beating Pinkneyville by nine points. This was the first time in twenty years a Granite team has been able to make such outstanding achievements. The Warriors were beaten in the first round of the State Tournament by West Frankfort in a “sudden death” overtime. The Warrior captains were Carl Wortham and “All-Stater.” Rich Williams. Rich was third in the Conference scor- ing race with a 21.3 point per-game average. Bob Price, a transfer from Madi- son, helped the team tremendously with his passing and shooting. The Warriors participated in the Centralia Holiday Tourney, one of the toughest in the state, and placed second, just behind Pinkneyville. We are looking forward to as fine a season next year, as two juniors, Frank Knight and Jim Simpson, will be returning. 133 VJ r A Carl Wortham Bill McDowell Larry Farnam 24 U Frank Knight Harry Smith Bill Haven )V Rich Williams Granite Opp. Cahokia Roxana Collinsville Jacksonville Belleville E.
