Given a sound academic foundation and a well rounded curriculum, we are encouraged to develop ideals, opinions, and interests which give us the ability to think individually and to work together. The four years of high school pass far too quickly. May this book hold many pleasant memories of the experiences of these years. Itwill be impossible to relate all of the hap- penings of this year, but it is possible to recall some of the happenings . We wish to thank all of those who have helped and made possible the publi shing of this book. As the pages unfold, we hope this will be a memorable 1955 Warrior Yearbook. 2 3 Mr. Grigsby It is with deepest appreciation we dedicate this 1955 Warrior to Paul A. Grigsby, an outstanding man, citizen, teacher, and friend to all. Hard work, friendliness, and the welfare and well being of others above himself have marked his 22 years of ad- ministration in the Granite City school system. During this time and under the guidance of Mr. Grigsby the vocational and academic departments have been united; the annex between the vocational and academic buildings has been con- structed; art and vocal music have been added to the curriculum; the Community Unit District has been established; and new build- ings are being constructed. Not only a prominent educator but also an active member of many civic undertakings, Mr. Grigsby has shown his keen insight into the progress and future of Granite City. To the students of Granite High, the friendly smile and greet- ing from Mr. Grigsby give one a feeling of his sincere interest in young people and their future. =DED1CAT101 4 PAUL A. GRIGSBY Superintendent A. B., A. M.. LL. D. BOARD OF EDUCATION These civic minded people are elected to determine the policies and to ad- minister the affairs of our school. They give hours of their time to make sure that the students have every educational facility which the district is able to provide. With gratitude dear Granite High we will always think of thee . . . The strains of our Alma Mater bring pleasing memories to the January Class of ' 55. Let us begin our reminiscing when in January 1951, a group of anx- ious Freshmen enter the doors of GCHS which is to be our second home. With making of new friends and having new activities, our Freshmen year passes quickly. As Sophomores our thoughts run ahead to the next two years when we will be upperclassmen. Our Junior tests soon prove we do not know all the answers. Under the expert leadership of our class officers and deans we share with the Low Juniors the enthusiastic efforts put forthon the Junior Prom Winter Wonderland. Excitement fills our minds when our thoughts turn to graduation. Now diplomas have been received, but the memories of our Alma Mater will always linger as pleasant ones. 21 SENIOR CLASS OF JUNE 1955 Left to right; Jerry Gruen, V. Seniors not pictured are listed on page 80. 43 For three wonderful years we awaited with anticipation the day when we wouldassume the role of Seniors. Now as graduation draws near, our senior year is over and we have only pleasant memories. How long ago it seems as we sat in the auditorium listening to Mr. Johnson talk to us and our parents. Soon we are Sophomores and begin- ning the long climb to our diploma. Upperclassmen at last! Our enthusiasm toward our school had in- creased, and we become full of school spirit. Our turn comes to give the annual prom. The old gym becomes transformed to a Winter Won- derland where we spend an evening long to be remembered. Then comes the day when all efforts are recognized. The long chain with another link added is being given to the approaching Senior Class, We are all reluctant to leave our Alma Mater, but we can certainly be proud of our class--the Class of June ' 55. 44 JUNIOR CLASS OF 1956 Class Officers Left to right: Verna Bailey, Pres., Robert Astorian, V.
