Mrs. Scott teaches high school English and Spanish and is a Junior sponsor, She teaches with excitement and wants her students to feel the same way about their work and studies. She is always there to help whenever and wherever she is needed. We will miss her next year because she has been a part of making our school what it is today. Our best wishes are with you, Mrs, Scott, and thanks for everything you did for our school, Mrs. Scott also enjoys making her husband happy Mrs, Scott always teaches with a smile and that just as she does her students, alone makes her students want to learn, fstlsww if S T S 5 Before School The last few minutes before school are spent rushing to get to school on time and into class before the second bell rings, Y 1 3 l W . . , E TOP LEFT: The parking lot fills up and during football season, decorated cars were a very corn- mon sight. TOP LEFT: Cynthia Everage and Eileen Naizer hurriedly get their y books for their next class, OPPOSITE: Students getting off the bus in the morning with sleepy eyes and their minds wondering What's going to happen today? The parking lot gradually fills up, but there is always that one car coming in after the bells have rung, There is also talk of interesting weekends, especially on Monday mornings, Morning is always the quietest time of the day. There's always that one person who falls asleep on the bus going to school and has to be tapped on the shoulder to make sure he doesn't stay on the bus all day, Although there are sleepy eyes, there are also some happy smiles to brighten up the day. One of the most exciting mornings was Hippie Day. You could see the small circles of students sitting around in circles before school. Everybody spent their time wondering who was who and wondering where the dress code went, TOP LEFT: Who could help but , notice Alice Pedroza and the car- load of people she brought to school every morning. MIDDLE RIGHT: There was still the smoke from our great big bon- fire the next morning, It shows Lion Spirit Never Dies! FAR LEFT: Pat Vrana is wondering Who is that? on Hippie Day. LEFT: Mr. Goodman thrilled with his first day of driving a bus. orning Activities Morning classes always seem to go by so slowly especially on Mon- day mornings. First period seems to last forever and noon break seems it will never come, For some, mornings are spent at school activities away from school like the Band 's trip to con- test, the girls' volleyball tourna- ments, track meets, and selling ads, OPPOSITE: The Juniors spent a whole week of mornings working on the jr, -Sr, Banquet. It seemed that wall of streamers would never stay up, It just kept coming back down. ABOVE: The band warms up on the bus getting prepared for ther contest. RIGHT: Janet Brown has a happy face as she enjoys the refre hrnents at an F.H.A. meeting, 1 Morning classes can be exciting though. The Seniors in Shorthand class will never forget the brief form matches, The freshmen will always remember their first lesson in cooking and sewing in Mrs. S1iger's I-lomemaking class. There was always the question in Build- ings Trades class: Wi11 we finish this house before school ends? Time proved different. The Seniors learned their shorthand, the Freshmen learned to cook and sew, and the building trades class finished their house. LEFT: The school nurse made her regular check of student's ears and eyes. as e srff ' T 9. e 4 'i' r FH be er fufaiaffx s-sa. 11 MIDDLE: The Building Trades house turned out to be a very pretty one and the boys learned a lot about how much work goes into building a house. LEFT: Mrs. Schauer can hardly keep the cards going fast enough for the way Susan Scott and Regina White are rattling off the brief forms. It was hard to decide who said the brief form first. The Juniors learned all about baby care in their Homemaking class. Mornings, especially on Monday, always brought the coaches together to discuss the last week's game. They usually did this over a cup of coffee. RIGHT: Mrs, Sliger, Monica Gorubec, Janet Brown, Rosemary Caldwell, and Doris Roznovsky watch as Shirley Ross demonstrates how to bathe a baby in Homemak- ing class. 122. xii t ' lf'r is vw f,- L . RIGHT: Doesn't Regina White look like a real hippie? It doesn't seem like she's learning much this particular morning, but at least she's happy. OOI1 Noon seems to be the most enjoyed time of the school day, It gives us a break away from classes although it isn't as long as.we'd like it to be, People sit under the trees and on the sidewalks or go to town. Hippie Day brought about a con- test, and the judges had a hard time deciding the best dressed hippie. TOP LEFT: Mike Janak doesn't look at all like himself on Hippie Day but doesn't he look real? TOP MIDDLE: Donna Kerlin seems to be enjoying her fried chicken at dinner. LEFT: Students sat around on the sidewalks on those bright sunny days ABOVE: Did the bell ring? Afternoon Activities Afternoon seems to be a time of extra activities and getting out of class for specially called meetings, programs, and pep rallies. Things seem to happen in the afternoon, especially in sixth period study hall, It seems, though, that more people get in trouble in their afternoon classes, p y ,.,,t,,..4ls.,-1' - TOP MIDDLE Barbara Kubacak gives an interesting speech at our Thanksgiving program TOP RIGHT: Mrs. Cory tries to get the point across in Commercial Math class, but seems to be having a hard time of it, ABOVE: Juniors Donna Bohac, Joanne Naizer, Mike Gorubec, and Rosanne Martine get their stationary to sell at a class meeting. RIGHT: Natalie Dykowski is accusing someone of taking her purse in study hail, Going up the stairs for an after- noon class, always brought you face to face with giant posters all over the halls during football season. Last period finally comes and everybody waits for that last bell to ring, OPPOSITE: Shirley Ross, Milton Filla, James Pekar, Alfred Cerven- ka, and Juan Hernandez wait for the bell to ring and wonder if it ever will, f I S ' as 1-,, .. ABOVE: Judy Vitek is very absorbed in her studies in study hall, BELOW: The Pep Rallies on the football field proved to be just as loud but it sure was cooler than the gym, RIGHT: Coach James gives his weekly talk at a pep rally. OPPOSITE: Debra Strmiska and Carolyn Selucky, two cheerleaders, imitate Coach Duncan and Coach Schroeder in a skit at a pep rally. RIGHT: Debbie Hyzak seems to be all excited about the game as she shows her spirit at a pep rally. How could our team lose with that kind of spirit backing them all the way to Victory, I 4 OPPOSITE: The Cheerleaders sponsored a car decorating contest and the best decorated car was announced at the pep rally. Qilbert Polasek's cat won with all its eagle feathers over it. Wonder how long it took him to get the glued feathers off. BELOW: Diane Kotrla and Carolyn Selucky get ready to start off a yell. v-1-c-T-o-R-Yu OPPOSITE: Mike Martine gives his pep talk and thoughts about the game to be played that night. The rest of his teammates listen but' they are already fired up about the game. This is the particular pep rally all the Senior football players gave their thoughts to the student body. The Football Team will miss this great bunch of guys. After School School is out and everybody is ' in a hurry to get home or to their - t job. Much time is spent in foot- ball practice, band and pep squad practice, and the cheerleaders t I .1 F. spent many hours making signs if and trying to get all the spirit they hiih ' could, The Juniors also spent a lot of time after school getting ready for the- banquet. TOP RIGHT: Mike Sanders and George Beard are glad school is over and they're on their way home. MIDDLE: The School Bus makes its daily run after school, returning students to their homes, RIGHT: Cars are in line waiting for all the buses to go before they are permitted to leave, We can't forget the many days the horns seemed to be hung, 1'..,igs3f25L' LEFT: The Football team is getting their extra hours in of practice to make sure that Friday night will bring an unforgettable victory. S ABOVE: Cheerleaders: Lorna Shirocky, Diane Kotrla, Debra Strmiska, Natalie Sykowski, and Carolyn Selucky are making the big sign for the boys to run through at the game Friday night. OPPOSITE: Donna Kerlin, Theresa Mayberry, Sue Korak, Jimmie Ellis Judy Hyzak, Bonnie Repa, Rose- mary Caldwell, and Janie Kotrla are being told what to do at a prac- tice for marching Friday night by Mr. Goodman and Mrs. Cory, The weather is cold but this never faded their determination to do their best. Friday night proved how much their work paid off. I I5 ight Activities Night brings the excitement of football games. There isn't any- thing as exciting as a Granger game, especially when the score is close all the way to the end. But doesn't our team usually end up with the most points after it's all over. How could our team let down the crowd in the stands that comes to every game? There is just no way, and that's one of the reasons they seldom do. Q TOP RIGHT: Jimmie Ellis has a serious face as the School Song is played by the band at a football game. ABOVE: And Here Come The Mighty Lions! MIDDLE RIGHT: Mark Hajda re- covers a fumble at the Thorndale game. TOP MIDDLE: Lorna Shirocky grabs James Pekar and can't be- lieve it's really true. James and Lorna were named Most Handsome and Most Beautiful at the Annual Preview. It is one of their ways of raising money for the annual. ? THANKS AGAIN! As we look back over the year, we remember the hall with all its noise and hurried footsteps. Now that school is out, it is filled with silence and em ptiness. The Seniors will never be part of that noise and those hurried footsteps, but many of us will come back and start a new year. We will again hear the banging of the lockers and an occasional screech from someone who got hit on the head from the locker door above them. 6 Y iz in Ni r ai N wif! 1? V, 5 2 4 gas The year ends and we leave good ole G.H.S. , the Seniors never to return for classes. For them, it means looking into the future and seeing what it holds. For the rest of the student body, it means a summer of fun and then back again . One thing is for sure: we will never forget Granger High School and our many years spent here. We will never forget the happy times with our friends, the spirit of the football games, the thrill of victory, the laughs over a joke in a classroom, the tears of defeat, and the sadness of graduation. Our School Song best sums up the way we feel toward our GREAT SCHOOL, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. Q 3 'Hmm -lglmfg Q-jo' wana Qyw, aw JW 1554 and Jfuwr.
