Seven Sisters A large Czechoslovakian family is im- beded in traditions-one of which is that daughters shall be married according to age. This sets the stage for Mitzi, a mar- riage-minded miss, who is third in line for marriage. Her schemes cause much con- fusion and merriment as Mitzi triumphs. Student Council The 1957 -58 year was a very busy one for the Student Council. Our first project, an apple -selling contest in con- junction with the Grandville I.G.A. was a tremendous success, with the council making over one hundred dollars. To improve the all-high parties sponsored by the council, a combination radio and record player was purchased. In addition to this a modern coat-checking system was inaug- urated to facilitate the large crowds at the basketball games and dramatic productions. The council was active in the affairs of the Grand Valley Student Council with one of the members, F. MacEachron, serving as its president. 24 in fx, Wg af fat. Pre- senting an argument clearly and effectively is the main objective to be reached by an affirmative debater. Fred MacEachron and David Opple, during this their first year of debating, did a good job in this respect and lost most of their debates by a narrow margin. Ken Walma and Kelyn Roberts, the regular negative debaters, had the more successful year of the two tearns. The assistance of debate coach, Arthur Ponstein, was invaluable to the team. sie 3? is W Us 25134 S 5 lst ROW: Phil Smith, Larry Van Spriell, Ron McC1ow, Tom Schooley, Lee DeRidder, Bob Mulder, Bob Goebel, Dale Scheerhorn. 2nd ROW: Carl Hamilton, Jim Stelma, Steve Bamard, Bill McIntyre, Ray Beltz, Carl Riester, Bill Van Hoeven, Ken Walma, Ray Shoemaker. 3rd ROW: Mr. Van Hartesveldt, Ken Meyers, Wes Willison, Paul Stadt, Larry Nixon, Jim Trempe, Gary Ensing, Dick Fredrick, Ron Motman. 4th ROW: Howard Oosterink, Fred Mac Eachron, Chuck Rinkevich, Lyle Mekkes, Don Grinwis, Keith Louwenaar, Dave Zwart, Dave Sweigart, Tom Koning. Perhaps you, too, helped in forming the following history. We entered high school in 1954 with Alvin Byam, as our president, Gwen Diekema, vice-presidentg Esther Huyser, secretary: and Geneva Vander Laan, treasurer. Besides being the guests of the sophomores for Grandville High School's last initiation, we held a successful all-high party and won second place in Grandvilles' last hi-lites. Pounding the gavel our sophomore year was Charles Rinkevich. Assisting him was vice-president, Virginia Van Hoeveng secretary, Esther Huyserg arid treasurer, Tom Vanden Bosch. We also sponsored another all-high party. The money-raising projects of our junior year four most expensive year because of the Junior-Senior Promj were the Junior play, Mr. BARRY'S ETCHINGS, magazine and taffy sales, and the Junior All -high Party. The Junior-Senior Prom with its theme: Song for a Summer's Night, was the high point of the year. Our officers this year were Ken Walma, presidentg Roy Gaunt, vice-presidentg Esther Huyser, secretaryg and June Bowen, treasurer. The final year was a busy time. We sponsored the annual Christmas Dance, the sen ior dinner and the paramount. Besides attending the prom, we took the annual trip to Chicago. To supply the necessary funds for some of these events, we held a car-wash and various money-raising drives. The Senior play ARSENIC and OLD LACE was very successful. Our officers were as follows: President: Robert QSkipy Goebel Vice-President: David Sweigart Secretary: Esther Huyser Treasurer: June Bowen We wish to express our thanks to our sponsors, teachers and friends who have helped us to achieve this part of our education. 40 ROBERT GOEBEL Why should the devil have all the good times.
