SCHIHH BIIARII During the past year, the School Board, under the capable leadership of Mr. Henry Alkema, has accomplished a great number of tasks. The members have spent long hours discussing plans that would help to better our school. Since the completion of East Elementary School, the crowded conditions of the elementary classrooms have eased considerably. In the future, the Board is planning to build additional elementary schools and also an addition to the high school. The play grounds at both schools were black-topped and furnished with new playground equipment last fall. Another project of the Board was the new base- ball diamond at Wedgewood Field. The members of the School Board have developed a favorable cooperative training program enabling students to attend school mornings and work afternoons. Also, as part of their program, the remedial speech program has been expanded. 3 ,V,, x . WILLIAM I. DeWITT A.B., A.M, Principal, Latin, Albion College, University of Michigan i AMANDA M. We were initiated as usual with the customary hilarious antics, and were often seen carrying the Sophomores' books to class. The following officers were elected to lead our class: President, Don Alberdag Vice President, Wayne Poppemag Secretary, Edwin Carr, Treasurer, Cliff I-laff. We returned to school the next fall as advanced Sophomores, full of pep and enthusiasm, The year soon got under way with the election of the follow- ing officers: President, Betty Maricleg Vice President, Bob De Wittg Secretary, Verna De Youngg Treasurer, 'Don De Winterg This time, it was our turn to en- tertain the Freshmen with an initiation party, which was a big success. We embarked upon a. truly eventful year, by having a party in the gym. This also began our money making projects. The entire class plunged into a gigantic soap selling contest, in which we placed second. In an attempt to better our fi- nancial status, we sold stationary. La Verne Vander Molen was elected to pre- side as President which task he capably filled. He had the following students to work with in office: Vice President, Bob Vander Wiereg Secretary, Joan Han- sen, Treasurer, Cecilia Debri. The second semester found us, under the direction of Mrs. Moody, busily working on our Class Play, The Little Dog Laughed , which rated many com- pliments. We closed our eventful year by entertaining the deserving Seniors with a banquet and prom which carried out the theme Under The Sea At last we were Seniors! Our last year was met with much joy and anxiety. The following were chosen to guide the class through this eventful year: Pres- ident, Bob De Wittg Vice President, Charles Travisg Secretary, Joan Hansen, Treasurer, Cecilia Debri. Early in the year the Paramount Board was chosen and soon the wheels began to turn as the all-important yearbook got underway. Under the direction of Miss Weeks, the class presented the Senior Play, Fa- ther Was a Housewife , which truly proved to be a success. As the second se- mester rolled around, it found us busily preparing for the Senior all-high party Aphordite's Agony which was enjoyed by all. On May 14, we embarked for Chicago on a trip which every Senior will al- ways remember. At the closing of the year, we were lavishly entertained by the Juniors in a very successful Junior-Senior banquet and prom. Our four years at Grandville High School culminated on June ll, as we walked solemnly down the aisle to receive our diplomas which left us to make a place for ourselves in the world. 10 -N , sweat, ..,,, yr... enior Cfaad icerfi 9, 1 ,.
