CLASS HISTORY SISPTIQMBER OF 1947 saw the Senior Class of '51 enter the doors of Grandville High School as shy and apprehensive as any Freshmen Class. They were initiated as usual with the customary hilarious antics, and were often seen bowing down to some Sophomore and seriously reciting I am a green Freshman , When they had become sufficiently acquainted to elect class officers, they chose the following: president, Gerry Bosch, vice-president, Duane Ensingg secretary, Nancy Mit- chellg and treasurer, Del Zandbergen, The following year, the Class of '51 was proud to be called, no longer Freshmen, but now advanced Sophomores. They entertained the Freshmen gleefully and were delighted to be looked upon with respect by these new students. The class elected jack Sousley as president, Duane Ensing as vice-president, Betty Huyser as secretary, and Del Zandbergen as treasurer. In 1949 the class returned determined to put Grandville on the map, The following were chosen to guide the class through this eventful year: president, Dale Alkema, vice-president, Dan Walma, secretary, Sally Wiseg and treasurer, Barbara Brinks. The year started off with a rollicking Halloween Party in the Gymnasium. The juniors then settled down to business in order to make enough money for their Senior year. They began by having a paper drive which was very success- ful and brought in some much needed capital. They then sold hotdogs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, for three months and succeeded in making themselves a complete nuisance. At the beginning of the second semester, they settled earnestly to work producing their play which, under the capable direction of Mrs, Moody, turned out to be one of the best in Grandville history. At the close of the year the juniors entertained the deserving Seniors with a banquet and prom which carried out the theme Mid-Century Grads. They looked back on their junior year as having been very successful and forward to their big year with great hopes and ambitions. At last the big year came around and was met with much joy by the Big Wheels , They again elected Dale Alkema and Dan Walma to lead the class with Bernadene Vander Wal as secretary and Pauline Blok as treasurer, Early in the year the Paramount Board was chosen and work began on the all-important yearbook -the pride and joy of the class. Under the direction of Miss Weeks, the class presented the Senior Play, Next Door Neighbors which was a great success. The second semester found them anxiously awaiting the boat trip which was taken on May 16 and enjoyed by all. The banquet and prom was a great success and greatly pleased the Seniors. On june 7th the Seniors walked solemnly down the aisle to receive their diplomas which finished one of the bright periods of their lives, and left them to make a place for themselves in the world. 10
