Gray was born in the small town of Moreland, Arkansas, lf Q ' , . 1 f m 9 f fl A Ze N I gl it 44 Z2 first year in Jefferson Texas In 1945, Mrs. Gray and her family moved to Missouri. She taught one year at the Pleasant Valley country school in J audon, Missouri. The next twelve years she taught Latin and English at Peculiar High School. She was the Beta Club sponsor and head of the annual staff. In 1961, Mrs. Gray began teaching Latin and English at Grandview High School. She also became the sponsor of the National Honor Society. She taught until May, 1971. Mrs. Gray thoroughly enjoyed teaching. During her ten years at Grandview, illness would often hospitalize her for a while. Even though her bouts with cancer left her increasingly weaker, she insisted to her family that her teaching would continue. Mrs. Gray's dedication to teach- ing and her strong faith in God helped her face the remaining years of her life with cheerfulness. -Mr. Herbert Gray Gflzcfy fs Kaseukon Srikacha bkemembering 1 Rose, our foreign exchange student, came here from Bangkok, Thailand. While she is staying in our country, Rose is living with Annie Stewart. Due to her outgoing personality and liveliness she will be remembered here at GHS for many years. We hope that someday she may return to Grandview for a visit. f- BRAR Y lifliilhmUMiWlEHH1lNiiWiU:Qj Mm! 3 oooo 13142 faculty Milli! 5 nl!!! F.H.A., F.T.A., F.L.C., G.A.A., Pep Club, the Letterman's Club, and five excellent floats partici- pated in the parade. The cars and floats were driven down Main Street, across the bridge to Highgrove Road and finally into the high school parking lot. Afterwards, everyone assembled in l the bleachers for a Pep Rally. Although we lost the game that night against Park Hill, the Homecoming Dance Csponsored by Pep Club, was a great success and everyone had an enjoyable time. f YQ' li Cathy Petty Second Place - Se ' 24 niors Third Place - Sophomores -- we -4 K in up 1 A 1 P 1. i 1 , Y . The directors, cast, crews, faculty, and parents showed true compatibility in presenting such a fine show. Kiss Me Kate is a musical within a musical. It depicts a group of actors and actresses producing the show The Taming of the Shrew . As the story unfolds, you find out that the personali- ties of the characters on stage are reflections of their true per- sonalities. Thus, Kate must not only be tamed onstage, but off- stage too. The story ends on a happy note, with Petruchio and Kate, or rather Fred and Lilli, becoming reconciled. , CAST Fred Graham QPetruchiol--Terry Hurley Harry Trevor fBaptistaJ--Wayne Highland Lois Lane fBiancaJ--Pam Moore Ralph fStage Managerl--Rick Bath T Lilli Vanessi fKateJ--Debbie Purvis Hattie fthe Maidj--Vicki Stark Stage Doorman--Steve Horton Paul--Desmond McQuerry Bill Calhoun 1Lucentiob--Tony Porter Gangsters--George Slenker Sarah Christian Harrison Howell--John Goodwin Servants--Steve Knabe Deidre Idol Mary Kay McCormick STUDENT DIRECTOR Sarah Farquhar 30 1 i i ? xx 'Hw mf we ' i , :.f'fff1-.- 'faplf A-1i.i'2i?5?1f?9?ZZ W,f'7'7',f,,,,.7 ., 1 'wif KESSI Smznw They can it SPARKLE -V I' 7 5411. , iiiil ' ' . , 1j-BW :, I Hr: Q, FW-, S' ' 'iw' ,. Howard Mahanes, head football coach at Central Missouri State, was the guest speaker. On September 10, the Bulldogs lost their opener in a non-conference game at N.K.C. Plagued by numerous injuries and mental errors, our team was stopped by Ex. Springs on September 17 and the Lib- erty Bluejays on September 24. After hard practicing and re- adjustments due to injuries, the Bulldogs put it all together to beat Fort Osage 14 to 7. On Homecoming, October 8, Park Hill edged the Bulldogs by the narrow margin of 12 to 7. The follow- ing two weeks didn't seem as promising, for the O'Hara Celtics whipped the Bulldogs 20 to 0, and Blue Springs swept a 26 to 0 victory. The last three games showed quite a comeback and the underlying ability of our team. Lee Summit squeezed by with a 22 to 21 victory. The Bulldogs then won two smashing victories, defeating Belton 20 to 12 and Hogan 27 to 7, Through many ups and downs, our final record was 3 and 7. The turnout was very good with 107 boys participating. The injuries wereadisappoint- ing factor this year, especially since many seniors were in- volved which dissolved any hopes of a senior group unity. However, Bud Fleenor, Don Angell and Randy Hale changed positions and played them very well. Also, the secondary, Rob Takacs, Dan Hamann, and Center Rick Ellsworth did an ex- cellent job. Craig Mader stepped in at quarterback in the middle of the year to round out the team. Al- though we didn't start out as well as we would have liked, hard work and practice payed off toward the end. The inexperienced juniors began to play as a unit which helped somewhat. The Junior Varsity's record shows that they're very capable of winning and the Sophomore group is probably one of the best overall. Thanks for all the support this year. Sincerely, Coach Tavernaro , j. V. FOOTBALL The Junior Varsity started the year out right by beating Q3 Eg, Springs by the'score of 27 to 12. Our powerful J.V. team kept up the excellent work and went on to defeat Liberty 7 to 5' 5, and Fort Osage with a very impressive and well deserved Q score of 59 to 12. Against Park Hill, however, the Bulldogs were beaten 20 to 14. Heavy rain fell on the O'Hara game which ended in a 6 to 6 tie. Back on the winning track, J .V. if wrapped up the season with a 14 to 12 decision over Blue Springs. Great work guys! T I-I-lang..-,, , Q 1 SOPH. When a group of individuals band together in a common cause, just about any desirable goal may be reached. This statement could well represent the 1972 track squad. Though not a heralded group as far as outstanding individuals were concerned, strong senior le'ad- ership and an unending team desire to be successful led this squad to heights beyond those projected for them. Individual sacrifices in order to help the group usually brings success to both the group and the individual. It is great to be a winner. Not just the past year, but our entire high school career. First our fun, but awkward sophomore yearg next our hard working junior year in which we fought to win every class competition contestg and we did it too! Last but not least our great senior year during which we showed the rest of the school that seniors DO, have spirit! We hope that our class can keep this spiritg because if we do, each member can be assured of really making it in life. AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT DESIDERATA M surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly 86 clearlyg and listen to others, even the dull 86 ignorantg they too have their story. Sb Avoid loud 86 aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain BL bitter: for always there will be greater 86 lesser persons than yourself Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Ss Keep interested in your own career, however humbleg it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairsg for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is: many persons strive for high idealsg and everywhere life is full of heroism. 50 Be yourself. Especiaflly, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about Ioveg for in the face of all aridity Sc disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. SU Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue SL loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself SU You are a chilcl.of the universe, no less than the trees 86 the starsgyou have a right to be here. And whether ,or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is un- folding as it should. SU Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever. your labors 86 aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.- Sv With all its sham, drudgery 8L broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
