Gn the memorable Inititation Day found us coming to school all dressed 'as little children with signs reading GIVE TO THE M NTALLY DEFICIENT. That night we were judged by a jury under the leadership of the prosecuting attorney Jimmy Soetaert. we glided through our Freshman studies and under the fellowship' of our Student President, Charles Porterg Vice-Pres., Doug Mathis, Mary Riedesel, Secretary, and Joan Andresen, Treasurer. Our Sophomore year we remember our wonderful English classes and Mrs, Sorrells helping us in our every activity and helping to build up our treasure, we collected a large amount of money from our Magazine Sales. Our class won the Carnival praise with Lois Amie and Doug Mathis being crowned 'Carnival King and Queen. All of our money making projects were a grand success in making money, Our noble officers of this year were Frank Sherron, President, Doug Mathis, Vice- Pres.5 Mary Riedesel, Treasurer, and Lois Amie, Secretary, ' Our Junior year found us hard at work raising the needed money to sponsor the Junior-Senior Banquet which was'held at the Old Plantation. One day a great excitement came'when the Junior Pla5ILOVE IS TOO MUCH TROUBLEgunder the direction of Miss Lorene Roller, was on it's merry way to a great success. The class officers were, Jerry Bickley, President, Vernon Rector, Vice-Pres., Bill Muse, Treasurer, Mary Riedesel, Assistant Treasurer, and Mary Bourquin, Secretary. The year ended with a big last day school picnic. The graduating class of 1951 is leaving behind it a record of which it can be justifiably proudl Members of the class held high offices and positions in s chool organi zations . V The opening of the final year saw the class under the leadership of Dorthy Olson, President, Mary Riedesel, Vice-Pres.3 Mary Bourquin, Secretaryg and Helen Johnson, Treasurer, leading the AO members of the class, ' The Senior Play, GHOST WANTED, was a huge success under the direction of MissVRoller. ' As we look back over the years, it makes us sad that we are leaving our friends and our school where we have spent many happy days. These things are to become the fond memories that we will cheerish in later years. They had their ups and downs just as everything does. But we must go on, each and everyone of us, to find our place in life and to help build a better world of tomorrow. As you know-this was the year'we had to prepare for our Junior-Senior Banquet. Alasl The funds were very low, but we were not dis- mayed, Each day in Mr. N9lson's American History class we didicated4a.few moments to class meetings in order to formulate plans to make some money. And we settled on scrap and paper drives. Ah! Those paper drives. They bring back such mem? ories. There are times recalled when certain parties couldn't find certain gears, but did that daunt us? No! The paper drives must go on! And so we ground up hills and down in our searches for that precious stuff-paper. Soon our'treasury began to accumulate before we knew it-we'd made about 3300. However, we did have a little trouble collecting the money for our scrap iron. But this was un- told'wealth for us! Now we'began to feel we were on easy street. What with our dues, ball-game concessions, and, of course, our playhdwe knew we would not fail. Then the date was set for April 20. Naturally fried chicken was to be our main course, for what would a banquet be without fried chicken? A great success. But before this we had our Junior Play. Play of all plays. .The play books were being passed around and we were all reading like fury to find. a play that would suit us all. There was talk of an all-girl cast. This, we thought, would deviate from the common run of class plays and, perhaps lend more interest to it, Thus, we presented our play with Miss Roller as our competent director, L The time was growing short then--and we knew our year was about to end, but before it did-we knew we mustihave one last fling. The all school picnic and a jolly good time was had by all. V a Ah! Sadly now we bid you adieu, but we shall always remember this year of years. we Sophisticated Juniors, sri N-.. 2. -x 1 Q ' I, W f I A f. may X J Q a s ?Q4f43 N 4, 1 if ff 1 'n . gahiamalex V 4 1 n 4155 Weeds 3 2 ' Fred Latty L President l' 1 l Gloria Keltner Claudette' 533-.Yer ' Treasurer Ilan J SGCI'Gf'aI'.Y - Rick Taylor Vice-President V. . fl l P -'I 11-NJ? 1 p LJ- Allison JO Ann Mitchell Harold White D. During the last few ears . V . Y the class has kept pace with the school for it has grown as the school has grown. Yet it still remains the HSmallest Class.U In the next two years it may not keep this title but the good fellowship between the classmates will still prevail. In this past year Sophomore faces have been seen in or at all of the school activities. They have been a vital part in sports, pep club, music, student council, speech, and many more activities. The group is an active bunch that really gets out and puts their Uclawsn into whatever they attack. For example: the selling of the magazine subscriptions fthe task given by the office to each sophomore classy. The class this year showed their Hget-out-and-gon by outselling the two previous classes. , When you are a Freshman 'the need for money arises, for it always has many uses and the need for more and more of it comes as the class progresses through its school career. Some of the ways the Sophomores found, for raising money, was by selling the magazine subscriptions, having scrapilwin drives, bake sales, paper drives, and by each class member contributing money to the class treasury. The HClass of 53N Cpresent day Sophomores hope to accomplish as much in the next two years as they have in the last two years Some of the things they have to look forward to are the Junior-Senior Banquets, graduation, and being the first class to have finished all four years in the new high school They have the memiors of Initiation Day, Homecoming and Christmas dances, class parties, and a Joyful time together as classmates The Sophomores wish the future Sophomore classes as much Dug 3oy,companion ship, and good luck as they have had as the Sophomore Class of '50 51' . . . 0 . . Getting up at 8:25 you rush madly to get to school on time. You run down the hall to fling your coat into your locker, wondering if it was yours, and hoping you got the right book for your first class. After you have found your seat you settle down to finish your nights sleep. The teacher calls on you to recite your lesson for the day you thumb frantically through the book to find the right chapl ter, Then you start to reading a recipe for biscuits to find it is English class, As you greet Mr. Taylor in the office he informs you why you are in that class, As the bell rings you bid him adieu, and weather the stampede to your locker. Opening your locker door carefully so everything won't fall out, you cautiously raise the first layer to get your library book for Study Hall. You make it to your morning classes all right and longingly ,wait for the noon bell to ring. When you hear the gong you politely shove your way to the head of the line. After a nourishing lunch of bread and water, you stagger back for your next class. Since it's Civics and you haven't read the chapter you do so frantically before the teacher comes in. You start talking about the government and by bell time you end the conversation with the question, UDoes the telephone really ring when no one's.there?H The next class is the most jovial subject of all Al ebra 8 The question in here is, UHow do you do it?H Answer, HIt's very simple if you ll know how. Hoping the bell will ring before he asks for your papers. You work feverishly playing X's and O's with your fellow mate. As the bell rings you calm- ly walk out the door knowing this ends a typical day at school, Z V 4 XXXL.. Q fbxg r 5 , 'V 'Q ii -P- X N xx G Q MDW Q N D Q.. R-Al'AA'nCS . xxx .
