That was the lbegin- ning of four long years of work for most of us. In the course of time a few left us, but more joined the group and so kept the grand total 35. Sepqi tember we were really made a part of the school by being initiated. Ironic as it may seem, the Fresh- men seemed to enjoy the affair more than the Sen- iors! We chose Harold Poe for president, and Miss Suddath for sponsor. We all managed to struggle through Algebra, or math as the case might be, and May 21, we found ourselves bereft of the title nGreen Freshmen.N Miss Suddath served us so well that we took her the second year for our counselor. Laroy Gann's efforts were at long last rewarded-ehe was made class president. The twenty-seven who were left got through the year rather quietly, and without too many mishaps. Then came the Junior year. We all remember the Sunday we slaved over the original short story! Mrs. Adams left before the term paper was due, but ten term papers,to get her to stay, would 'gladly have been written. But that was not to be, so we expressed our appreciation and regard for her by an appropriate gift. Arlin McMillan served us well as class president. With the help of our sponsor, Mrs. Scott, we decided to give a nicer banquet than Grandview ever had knownbefore. lt was financed by the annual Jr. Class play WCome Rain or Shinen, and a Jr. Benefit'Program which consisted of two one-act plays,, HThe Lucky Accidentu and nThe Tiger's Clawn, and several musical numbers. We decided that a school paper would help everyone keep up on the latest news, sopNThe Leadern under Miss Wilbur's direction was published biwmonthly. January A, the Jrs. received their class rings and .sm gf f. fziifvlriff . 1472 .275 , fi TAT 'Q f, ,T l':f.'.f,ZL ,117f,:ii.:.:fL.n,4...,,, , .. 5.1, ig, 2 7.3. Not wishing to fall be SQhind en anything, we started to work on the year- qabook almost immediately. The main responsibility Qfwas placed in the capable hands of Dorothy Shortino Qimand Melba White. Miss Mittendorf was chosen to fansponsor the class, and Buford Ray was elected for , 4- V' Q :i1'Ji Q Zggpresident. November 6 we presented Urns Mad 'Hat- gigtersn, over which we had slaved for several weeks. giQNovember 8, we Seniors dressed in our Sunday best Sdiand honored Montague's Studio by letting them take Ky? gigour pictures. About the middle of the year wefin- gegally compromised, and arranged a class party--the A rgggfirst one we had had all year. n aw? QQQ Shortly after the holidays, two members of the QHgclass decided to say Ngoodbyen, and go out into the tigworld to seek their fortunes, Then with the meas- ???uring for caps and gowns, everyone's thoughts be- Qiggan to turn toward commencement. As the time draws ffmcloser for us to leave, we think of all the good Wgitimes we had together, and as we separate and each Qgggo our way, we do so Knowing that dear old G. H. The Juniors have been outstanding this year in practically every school activity. Seventy per cent of the boys' basketball team and fifty per cent of the girls' team were juniors. Leslie Hall, Ray Young, and Jean Young were chosen for all star teams. In the music department the juniors were active. We participated in all musical activities. We took part in dramatics. In the one-act play we were well represented. Our assembly program was outstanding, and the junior play UDon't Take My Penny,N was presented two nights. We were the publishers of your school paper, nThe Leader.U La Verne Knoche, a junior, was elected Queen of the school at the St. Patriek's Dance. The Junior-Senior Banquet was one of the most lavish affairs ever given by a junior class of G. H. S. This was financed by a box supper and the junior play. We've workedg we've played, we've studiedg and still we have enough pep to go on next year, when we will show you that we can be just asf good seniors as we were juniors. r ' 7 ' A 1 , , HN., fi .-.i 5 ...W .-, -- ... i. Although the upper classmen kicked us about, that didn't keep us from thinking that we were a firstrate class. We selected Mr. Meredith as our sponsor, La- Vaughn Salyer, presidentg Elmer Dean Hale, vice- president and Bill Milne, Secretary-treasurer. Then there was the usual round of skating parties, picnics, and that painful initiatienz Somehow or another we managed to study on the side, and by some chance of fate became Sophomores. Fall of l9h5-our number had diminished to 38, though we were still no small class. We chose Marian Demand to keep us on ethe straight and narrow path Juniorward. Elmer Dean Hale was elected president, Rod May, vice-president and HHonestH Bill Milne was again chosen to be secretary-treasurer. In the course of the year we had two skating parties, one Bionic and a hayride. We wonder to his day who roke the axle on that wagon. The Sophomores were well represented on both the boys and girls basketball teams, and also in track events. As musicians, we show doubtful promise. But just wait. We elected Class officers and chose our sponsor the next day. Officers elected were Bill Swartz, presidentg Cliff Swartz, Vice-Presidentg Mary Alice Sloan, Troasurerg and Donald Nickle Secretary. Mrs. Sorrells is our sponsor. The freshmen were very happy and contented when along came initiation day. The Seniors seemed to enjoy it but we didn't. We hope to do the same thing to other freshmen in three years, Much used are the words to describe the Blue Ridge Skating Rink in regards to the freshmen. We had several parties there. We also had fun putting on an assembly play and besides we omitted English while practicing it. I am sure We will all be glad to besto our title of NGreen Freshmenn to another class. We' were glad to have Beverly Horton, Gail Duncan, Alfred Carrel, Loyd Gunnels, George Smith, Joe Bill Turman, and Eileen Roy join our ranks at the first of school. Wu were sorry to see Gail Duncan, Bobby Alderson, and Leroy Weeks move away. Considering everything, the freshmen have had a fine start in their war against ignorance. ,W ,M , 5. In behalf of the Seniori Class we nearby will and bequeath our corny laughs, improbable jokes, and childish pranks, hoping they will never be forgotten by the students of G. H. S. To our superintendent, Mr. Neal, we- bequeath our wishes that in the future he may obtain an ef- ficient secretary, unlike those of the second year shorthand class. To our Principal, Mr. Stillions, whom we hear is a second Bing Crosby, we leave our wishes that he and Frankie never clash. ' To Mr. Wrisinger QArchieJ we regret we haves nothing to leave. He already possesses enough personality and all other fine qualities. However we leave our wishes that he continues to be an ex- cellant typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping teacher, and is never blue except on his Blue Mondays. To Mr. McConnell our faithful sponsor, we leave the love and affection of the Senior class. To Miss Demand we will our wishes for all the success possible in her music and band classes, in the coming years, and hope she will acquire a nRed Hot Swing Band.N To Mrs. Sorrells we wish the best of luck in future years, and gladly will her all our English texts and Literature.
