It was all very Ueasy on the ears. Also on the bill were the uYodeling Cowboysf, who don't yodel and aren't cowboys but four Thirty-Niners: Bob Staclc, George Bloom, Walter Anderson, and Jaclc Rubber Earsn Ennis. Betty Mosure is cashier at the palace now. The next day was Katy Harderis shower for Mary Nlargaret Knoebel, who is leaving her private secretary job next month to get married. Anne Dascenzo in- herits her job. Katy ucroldie Loclcsu is still trying to teach wriggling little girls to sew. The party was practically a teachers' meeting with Nancy Vvarner. Gloria Gardner, who teaches kindergarten, and lVlary Harlow, the gym instructressg but Helen Montgomery, Doris Haverlield, and Jane Garner represented the smart young clubwomen about town. I hadnyt seen most of these girls since Peg Beclcettys wedding, and did the gossip ttyl Margaret Boughton is doctoring the ailments of Shrimptown, Missouri. Elaine McCleery is a bacteriologist, sticking her nose into the private lives of germs. Mary Kuhner is also a ubugologistn, and an economics teacher, too. David Kuhner is a professor of physics and test tubes at Q.T.U. Bill Burkhart is going to play doctor to the Eslcimos in Labrador just because he can go there by boat. Jessie Pruett and Angelina Angel Mirolo have joined the ranlcs of the Hwomen in whitef, and Harriet Leonard is a lcey puncher udeluxef' We girls became reminiscent of the time we went, to Joan Neeseys debut in the Metropolitan Opera 6'Madame Butterliyf, Vvasnyt that thrillingl l was sorry that Polly Bodwell and Betty Burke couldn't come to the party: but Polly's social service worlc doesnyt leave her much time to herself, and Betty's position as hostess in Lazarus Tea Room lcept her there at the time ot the party. Some of the girls have been talcing dancing lessons from George Painter: and Ruth Fetch had her fortune told by that super crystal-gazer and magician, Sig- nor Harry Zavitz. Ruth found out the name of that boy and is using it for her own now. Ruth Fisher and lona Anderson also have entered into holy matrimony. lxlartha Scanland has married her millionaire: Jean Rosenboom has Hsettled downn and joined the Little Theatre Movement.,' Both Martha and Jean design their own attractive clothes. Several Hcareer women!! have emerged from our class. Marjorie HA Little Bit lndependentu Lang is a private secretary in New York, and Cloa Jean Case is teaching French to the French in France. Jim Pentield runs a grocery and general store in Pipsquealc County and has live daughtersl When l left Katyys house l felt lilce Walter Vvinchelrs column. Several days alter I had arrived in Columbus, Gladys Mason invited me to the Pencil and Typewriter Club Banquet. Have you read Gladys, latest boolc of poems? The banquet was a huge affair and the dinner was delicious. Eugene Schlegel, the editonpresided. Robert Earl Ashleman reviewed his bool: How to Win U61 Girls and lnlluence Vvimminf, Among those present were reporter Jean Bow- man, feature writer Phyllis Kuechle, and Wanda Rudy, who is the present Betty Fairfaxf' Jeanne Breeze was there representing Harpers Publishing Company where she is a secretary. Bill Parks, the cartoonist, and Bob Goss lwho incidentally wrote his college prophecy, were there, as was Bob 'Believe It or Elseu Ripley Beclcer who raises frogs. Among the spealcers was Pat Nlathias, noted sports com- mentator, who was there with his charming wife. You remember that Pat was the first of the class of '59 to marry. ln all the tall: that went around the table, l learned that Stuart Van Pelt is a rising champion in the boxing World. Many people thinlc that Ray Rhoads, the legislator. should be president, because he delights in teasing fish with lat, juicy worms, and bugs. . If you want curly hair see Bob Keenerg he has invented a new hair cut that curls as it cuts. Jaclc Brown wears a natty uniform and rides a bicycle around delivering telegrams. Dana Reynolds, Jr., is addressed as 'Hedge Reynolds, suhl Vvle returned from the banquet about midnight, stuffed lilce a Thanksgiving turlcey. l had to go to a baseball game to see Margaret Slayor and Wilma Rauscher: both are happily married to players. Eddie Harris and Diclc Wolfe are in big league baseball and are ugoing places, l'm told. Looking very big and official in his policeman's uniform, Sam Vvilliams was trying to lceep order at the game. You have to be nice to men lilce that. l enjoyed the game and lots of peanuts. The next day l was on my way to Hollywood. l certainly had enjoyed my visit in Columbus. When l boarded my plane, Patsy Northington greeted me loolcing very jaunty in her stewardess outlit. Vvhen she told me Bill Kaiser was the pilot, l was all lor getting off, but she reassured me by saying he had crashed only six planes in three years. Dolores Bove is an air hostess on this same line. As we went into a tailspin, l read in the paper that Bob Bradford had been appointed U. S. Ambassador to France, and Bob Red, Hannaway lremember him?j had quit professional football for coaching. Mary Lou Bates, picture was in the paper endorsing a hair tonic alter her recent role as uAlice in Vvonder- land. Don Juanu Leroy Viclcery, ace Hollywood reporter, met me at the Holly- wood airport. He tool: my picture and interviewed me. Was l thrilledl I had come to visit that lamous movie star, lVlary Katherine Musser, and l was almost a celebrity. Doesnit Mary play the most thrilling love scenes, though? That night Mary, l, and several of her admirers went to Charles HBud Gil- christ!s Pinlc Bonnet Night Club where red-headed Virginia Rond did a hot hula dance. l saw Gerald Wootton, the baslcetball star who is now hailed as the tenth Robert Taylor. Ed Murphy was at the bar: you lcnow that he is scheduled to play Niclc Carter in That Thin lVlan's ln Againf' lVlary Alice Hill, fresh from her latest Broadway success, was thereg and so was Ruth nlast-tallcingu King, well- lcnown as the female Walter Vvinchellf' Jeanne Houseman, the lovely model. came in wearing one of Barbara .laclcsoifs latest creations.
