Under the initiative and leadership of Dr. Ernest D. Nielsen, Grand View College, in cooperation with several of the degree -granting institutions in the state of Iowa, has developed an educational program in which excellent students have the opportunity to complete three years of their undergraduate program before transferring to one of the co- operating schools. At the present time, the Three -Year Program has arranged coordinated curriculum requirements with the following schools: The State University of Iowa at Iowa City, Iowa State University at Ames, University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, Drake University at Des Moines, and Simpson College at lndianola. The academic areas of concentration in which the program operates include: Biology, English, History, Sociology, Speech, Drama Elementary Education, and Secondary Education. i - This is the third year that Grand View has had juniors on the campus. There are twenty-five juniors in the program this year, and this number represents a steady growth in numbers since the beginning of the program. Stu- dents from the two previous years who have transferred to the cooperating schools have done well and have made the transition to these institutions with a minimum of difficulty. The Three-Year Program has had an important influence in the life of Grand View in two very meaningful ways. First of all, it has given the good students an opportunity 'to participate in an enriched curriculum program for an additional year, with a faculty and classroom environment tha.t they have found to be worthwhile. Secondly, the presence and the contributions of these students to the classroom and to the campus life of the College have enriched Grand View. There is every hope that these influences will continue' to grow and become more meaningful as the 9 Three -Year Program continues to grow. Special mention should be made of the Honors Seminar which gives all of the third -year students an oppor- tunity for a learning experience that is hoped will aid them in their subsequent educational situations. The Seminar also provides the opportunity for the juniors to have a common experience that helps develop a sense of unity and an X ESPRIT DE CORPS within the group. The Honors Seminar is organized on an interdisciplinary basis, and the active participation and willing cooperation of the Grand View faculty provides an enriching experience for all those in- volved. During an era of a good many innovations in education, Grand View can be pleased with the progress and initial results of this unique plan. It is with every confidence that Grand View College will continue to enrich the lives creasing numbers of students in the Three -Year Program. Wilber I. Williamson ' l Coordinator
