The Vice -President for Finance is the chief business officer of the college and is responsible for the prudent direction of all phases of the College opera- tion involving finances. This includes the preparation of an annual budget, the receiving of all funds from tuition and fees and church contributions, the super- vision of plant and property, all purchasing, and the keeping of accurate records. In addition he is responsible for general management of the College bookstore, the dorrnitories, the dining hall, and the student union. Further responsi- bilities involve the management of the Grand View College Endowment Fund, the construction of new buildings, and the purchasing of new property. The duties of the Dean 'relate to all phases of the academic life of the College. This includes direction of the relationships of faculty and students to all course work taken in any division of the College. An additional large area of concern has to do with student recruitment, admissions, and records. Development of academic programs and curricula, as well as matters relating to the welfare of students on campus, is an im- portant part of the responsibility of this office. - X .Sf ,M r , Sit- s 5 K. 'ni The English department moved ahead this year in a coordinated effort designed to help the student to be more effective in his communication with others. Although two semesters of freshmen English, emphasizing grammar and composition, were the only requirements in this area, the elective courses were also popular and beneficial. These electives focused on literature appreciation and composition. All English courses help students gain a higher level of insight into the mechanics and essence of the English language.
