The 20th century has brought forth a phenomenal growth in the accepta.r1ce and appreciation of fine arts in the United States. For today's student, fine arts offer an opportunity to pursue an academic and cultural background, to develop the practical side of the arts and to understand the power of communication through the fine arts. It has been said that music is a language understood by all. Courses in music not only seek to teach students understanding, but also the ability to interpret music in various ways. Students were givenanopportunity to develop their interests through ensemble or private instruction. Specialized training is provided for students preparing for teaching or advanced musical training. In the art department, students have an opportunity to express themselves in many media. The courses in art provide basic instruction in the use of art materials either as a foundation for students interested in art professionally or for students who desire to teach on the elementary or secondary school level. The Art Ap- preciation is a course aimed to develop in the student an aesthetic and intellectual appreciation of the great artforms in the fields of drama, music, pictorial arts and poetry, Barb Jacobsen organizes under the direction of Mr. Biebel' .
