The courses at Grand View College were designed to develop within each student a pride in his native language and instill in each individual an awareness of correct speaking a.nd writing. The literature courses cultivate in the student an appreciation and enjoyment of great liter- ature, and light the way for his reading in the future. English I and II and General Speech are required courses for all freshman students. The two semesters of English are designed to focus the students' attention on grammatical correctness as well as appreciation of the cultural aspects of life. The majority of the courses in the English depart- ment are elective, and are designed to develop knowledge and abilities on a more profound level. The office ladies of course! They were confronted each day with numerous tasks, presented to them by both students and faculty. Somehow, though, everything always came out right as long as the office ladies were present' to answer questions and solve problems, They were a very important asset to Grand View College and helped make it a smooth-running school.
