apable Men Directed the Year Mr. Herbert Hurley, Dean Working closely together these men weld the business, academic, and student-related aspects of Grand View College into a smoothly operative unit. Since 1961 the Office of Admissions under the direc- tion of Kenneth W. Paulsen, has overseen the activities of admitting, orienting, and interviewing all students as they become affiliated with the college. Our guidance' department has been supervised for several years by Dean Hurley, His duties include both counseling and scheduling of students and keeping files on all attending Grand View. ,G- Mr. Kenneth Paulsen, Admissions Mr. Harry Jensen, Business Manager For some 20 years, students at Grand View have looked upon Business Manager Harry C. Jensen as friend and financial advisor. He is the chief business officer of the College and manages the entire school as designated by the President. In a diplomatic way he solves the varied financial problems which cross his desk. Completing his third year as Director of Student Affairs, Ronald P. Maigaard assists in the counseling and guidance program and aids students in handling expenses. He also worked with the students in coordinating campus activities. TTT. . ml! Y' Grand View is fortunate to have as its leader a man ky with the ability, foresight, and personal concern for stu- . J dents exemplified by President Nielsen. He is well known . l'-- - for his friendly hello and inspiring conversations with those who meet him on campus. Dealing diplomatically with the problems of students, faculty, and alumni, he steadily guides Grand View in continued progress in the field of higher Christian education. :,,.'-M in. President Completes 14th Year THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE In retrospect the year 1966-1967 will be rememberedby many, I hope, as the year in which significant steps were taken toward strengthening Grand View College. The installation of the Reverend Clyde L. Norrgard as the first full time Campus Pastor marked an innovation which, I am certain, will bear Christian fruits. There always has been a pastoral concern on the part of the faculty for the students. Things of religion and the mind are not mutually exclusive in a Christian college. We look forward to new developments and new patterns of the manifestation of student Christian life over the next several years. The enlargement of the Board of Directors to a membership of 25 is another indication of the geographical extension of the Lutheran territory from which Grand View will receive church support. The viability of the college is today unquestioned. Nowhere is the church's faith in Grand View more visible than in its decision to undertake a major financial campaign for a Greater Grand View. The building construction, which you have seen started this year, is sufficient grounds for your high expectations. The ultimate test of the quality of the college lies in the quality of its teachers and students. A college education ought to help students to learn that there are no easy answers to the problems of man and society. When Jesus said, 'fl am the way, and the truth, and the life Uohn 14:63, He bore a witness unto Himself which persistently addresses itself to man's will to believe. The headlines of this morning's newspaper tell me in disappointing words: No answer to war problems seen in talks. As never before, Christian men and women are challenged to take seriously the full implications of the Christian faith for every area of human life. We must continue to build ever more firmly on the surest of all foundations. IO

As official governing body of Grand View College, the Board of Directors was responsible fon approving budgets, determining operational policies, approving selec- tion of faculty and administration officers and guiding the future expansion of the college. The Board of Directors has approved plans for several new building projects. By the spring of 1968, there will appear on the Grand View campus, a new 2-story, 20,800 square feet, air conditioned library. Also, plans are being made for the construction of a new two-story science and classroom building to be connected to the present science building. The building will include ten classrooms, one lecture hall, four laboratories, a green- house and ten faculty offices. A women's dormitory to house approximately 120 women to be located just north of the men's dormitory, is planned for completion in 1968. College Employs Pastor I2 The installation of the Reverend Clyde L.Norrgard as a full-time campus pastor was made at Convocation on September 22, 1966. With his donut dunking sessions he endeavored to relate faith and learning in the academic community, to provide pastoral counseling for all students, and to create opportunities for group discussions and voluntary service projects. Reverend Mr. Norrgard came to Grand View from churches in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Reverend Mr. Norrgard is an important linkbetween Gra.nd View College and the pastors and churches of the community. He invites students to come to his office any time. He will be glad to talk to you.
