The U. K. Council is the governmental organization of Grand View. It is composed of three faculty members and eight representatives of the student body. The main p ur pos e of the Council is to plan social activities for all students. Student life at Grand View plays a significant role in our whole educational experience. The ma- turing effects of so ci al relationships, the bonds of lasting friendship, the challenges of daily living are all a part of our necessary growth to become powerful adult citizens of tomorrow. If we can look back over the year and see that Grand View has m atured us in these ways, we can know we have received something from our school that has given us more than fleeting pleasure or sentimental memories. Our lives have become enriched in a deeper sense because we have been a part of Grand View. We have reaped of the goodness of Grand Viewg let us hope that in return we have planted seeds which will grow to give joy and meaning to those who follow us. When exhibition time came, we all put on our Three Leather Stockings, took our Half Chain and went waltzing off as happy as The Dashing White Sergeant . At Studenterfest, after having our Pretzel Dance and Beer Barrel Polka , we went to the aid of Little Man in a Fix . Although we put a lot of hard work and time into Folk- dancing, we gained much more and had fun doing it. C. meets in five . mms? Relations Club International Relations Club combined with the Organization of Overseas Students this year to pool their efforts. They are studying one country so that they will be able to represent it at a mock United Nations convention held in the spring. Language Club Language Club serves Grand View in a tri-lingual capacity this year, combining French and German with Spanish. Students are able to get practice in speaking the language of the countries they are studying, as well as being able to obtain information on the cultural aspects of these countries. Shed on young hearts the light of inspiration Faculty 0 in of M X THE OPPORTUNITY FOR OPTIONS IN LIFE The number of American youth, who live without the choices which are open to millions of their own genera- tion and communities, is disturbingly high. One of the most desired options among people everywhere in the world, but especially in the undeveloped nations, is the privilege of access to education. The same problem confronts us in our own society. In the midst of unprecedented national prosperity in America, there are large segments of our population who are unable to exercise many of the options in life, including access to education. It is a problem which Christians, above all others, must give attention in light of the redemptive aspect of the Christian faith. We need examples of how to help the socially, economically, and culturally disadvantaged, but potentially capable, to achieve the level where the opportunity for options becomes a reality. Grand View College has taken the initiative in proposing a special program of financial assistance to such qualified students from Iowa. The program is exclusively for students in this particular category. One require- ment will be that the students who will be accepted under this program must reside on the campus. Thanks to foundation support, which we have been able to obtain, the program will start in the fall of 1965. I hope that students who have free access to education will think about those whose abilities cannot be fully developed because they find themselves among the economically disadvantaged. Paul says, I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish: sol am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
