And this book, reflecting the thinking and attitude of the students, shows their image of Grand View is not blurred. I hope that you will remember this image of the college after you leave Grand View. Out of your own educational experience at Grand View, you may some day, in some way, contribute much to a clearer public understanding of the meaning of education for man. Your great advantage is that you do not need to start afresh -DE NOVO- you have an image on which to build constructively and critically. If we at Grand View have helped you in your search for understanding and knowledge, you will be able to make your own affirmations of the value and relevancy of the church related college. The Christian college is not a congregation, but it does have some of the same marks and qualities. Within this academic community I trust you have sensed something of the Church's deep concern for education, including its recognition of the mandate to witness to all truth, including revelation. Ernest D. Nielsen E Dean Herbert T. Hur1ey's primary job is to keep all student records and act as head advisor. As registrar, Mr. Hurley comes in constant contact with the students of Grand View, and he also teaches the calculus class. However, this does not refer to those composing the student council, Rather it refers to how much power our student body possesses and how much power the students want to work for and accomplish. Just like any governing body, Grand View's student council has restrictions, but they are set by the students themselves and not by any outside forces. If we are to have a strong student government then we must have a strong and ambitious student body. This year I feel our council has accomplished many desires of its students, and I would like to express my appreciation to the council and student body who helped make this past year a successful one. Our council has been a powerful youth thanks to the students whose power made it so. jay ffzf Unger Kroefter Unger Kraefter has eight members and three faculty advisors. President and Vice-President are elected in the spring for the following year: then in the fall, six town and two dorm representatives are elected. From these representatives, a secre- tary and treasurer are elected. Meetings are held every Monday at noon. U.K. council is the link between students and administration in the government of Grand View College. 41' :l?'f fi: 'Elf BACK ROW: Mr, Jesseng advisor, Dick McCauley, Gary I-Ianseng treasurer, Michael Sullivan, Doug Hall president. It is a fanfare, heralding an altogether new life in a competitive and demanding adult world. The school has done a big job conditioning young minds for this moment. And, properly, these minds are eagerly receptive to the chal- lenge. But thereis more required than a mental reservoir of facts and figures and a willingness to apply them in a practical way. There is another item that is every bit as im- portant or perhaps more so. It is the human heart. For, it must still be acknowledged that it is the heart that can direct these other attributes in such a way as to add to mere material success the quality of satisfaction-a quality that colnes from using knowledge and wisdom and skill not only to ixnprove oneself but to make a better world for all who dwell in it. Rightfully, then, it's proper to pause here and ask oneself, 4'Whither goest thou'f', And then to choose the way that invites this unbeatable part- nership of mind and heart.
