Pueaident Ylielaen THE KEY TO TOMORROW There are many approaches to today's problems in education. The one which we shall give first consideration in T958 is the community approach. The inter-relationship which exists today between the college and the community is the result of the increasing number of situations in which members of the college, both faculty and students, work together with other individuals, groups, organizations, and boards for a better community. Besides a growing mutual appreciation between the college and the community, there is develop- ing a real awareness of the need for Grand View College in the city of Des Moines. The real task that lies ahead of us, as the next step in the advance of Grand View College, is to present the need with the view of obtaining very substantial aid for the college, for democracy and education can never be the concern of only the few. My challenge to the students of today is to accept the idea that there is a place in life for Christian stewardship in higher education with the view that one's college has a legitimate claim upon the benevolent giving of its graduates and former students. The key to tomorrow is an educated citizenry committed to learning, to responsible partici- pation, and to voluntary sharing in the cost of maintaining free schools in a free society. lo Ernest D.
