Garland Girls Trcick Goins Interest Sixteen girls turned out for track, the biggest group since girls track was organized in 1975. The team entered one pre-dis- trict meet, at Wills Point where they placed second in overall points, T. K. Gorman, Canton, and Van. At the district meet Kerri Will- ingham placed third in the long jump. The 300-meter relay group - Lisa Carroll, Kerri Willingham, Patty German, and Diana Worden - also took third place. Getting fourth place ribbons were Lisa Carroll in high jump, Linda Eddy in discus, and the 1600-meter relay team composed of Tammy German, Trish Groves, Shirley Anglin, and Linda Eddy. Coming in fifth in their events were Patty German in 80-yard hurdles and Laura Bates in dis- cus. Sixth place winners were Kerri Willingham in triple jump and Denina Kelsey in discus. With the loss of only one sen- ior, hopes for the next season are high. 'ia Shot put is Denina Kelsey's main event during the track season. Freshmen Toke District Trcick Honors Freshman tracksters won the istrict championship and the arsity piled up enough points to elp GS win the District UIL tro- hy. Having thirty boys turn out or track made the two-team pproach necessary. ln district competition, the 'eshmen took seven first places. lobby Wheeler got first in shot ut and discus, James Rodgers in ole vault and 200-meter dash, effrey Fletcher in 110 high hur- les, Michael Swain in 400-meter ash, and Tim Joe Lovett in 300 wtermediate hurdles. Placing second were Daniel 'lartin in discus, long jump, and l l Lkilh 300 intermediate hurdles and the 400-meter relay team of Daniel Martin, James Rodgers, Tim Joe Lovett, and Michael Swain. Third places were received by David Boyles in high jump and Jeffrey Fletcher in 300 intermedi- ate hurdles. Fourth place ribbons went to Claude Lane in pole vault and mile and the mile relay team of James Rodgers, Brent O'Bannon, Michael Swain, and Tim Joe Lovett. Paul Abrams placed sixth in discus. The varsity team won the Wills Point Invitational Track Meet. Placing first at district was .ian-ffl Ricky Wheeler in shot put and discus. Don Maxfield took second in pole vault, and Tony Thomas third in shotput. Fourth places were taken by Danny Rodgers in high jump and the 440-meter relay group of Adam Richey, Charles Beasley, Michael Morris, and Thomas Dickerson. Winning fifth places were Joe Elmore in 800-meter, Adam Richey in 100-yard dash, and Ramey Heddins in 110 high hur- dles. The 1600-meter relay group of Jeff Carroll, Dale Carroll, Adam Richey, and Charles Beasley won sixth.
