Whether we liked it or not we all had to go, and that meant at least seven hours a day we spent there. Much of what we did afterward was linked with what we did in the classroom. But school was not our entire world. We spent many hours at jobs and leisure activities, with our families, or just messing around. Yet, no matter how far from school we wandered, we always came back. Opening 3

We worried about exams, wasted our gas, wished for gradu- ation, wore out our Wranglers, and wondered about our future. lt was our world and we made it happen.
