Graduates Breathe a Sigh of Relief Diplomas were presented to 47 seniors at graduation ceremonies May 28 in the elementary audito- rium by Bob Lee, president of the school board. Rev. Tom Pesnell gave the commencement address. Valed- ictorian, Brenda Lambright, and salutatorian, Jo Haptonstall, also spoke. Honor students, Lisa Clower, Tamara Sherburn, and Lynn Hill, were recognized by principal, Gerald Gilbert, who also pre- sented Departmental Awards. Brenda Lambright was awarded a scholarship to any state-supported school. She, Jo Haptonstall, and Randy Calk, highest ranking boy graduate, received scholarships from Texas Council of Church Related Col- 30 Graduation Alter the ceremony, Debra Jarmon hugs a classmate as other seniors congratulate each other. Salutatorian, Jo Haptonstall, speaks of past achievements of the school. leges. Tamara Sherburn received the Myra Hunter Memorial Scholar- ship of S150 given by Alpha Beta Delta. Deana Bates was given the Athena Club's S150 scholarship, and Laura Dickerson was recipi- ent of the S100 scholarship given by the Young Homemakers. The Hattie Claude Persons Memorial Scholarship of S350 went to Lynn Hill.

The Dear Departed, a com- ty by Stanley Houghton, was elected forthe UIL One Act Play mntest. At the district meet held Henderson County Junior Col- ge in Athens, the play placed as ternate for the regional meet. Making the All-Star Cast at igional were Libby King and zrry Davis. Other actors and the iaracters they portrayed were atti Brummett, Mrs. Amelia Sla- rg Claude Lane, Mr. Henry Sla- rg Terry Davis, Victoria Slater, bby King, Mrs. Elizabeth Jor- dong Todd Thompson, Mr. Ben Jordon: and Holly Monk, Abel Merryweather. Mrs. Jackie Wilson directed the play and was in charge ot makeup. Stage crew members were Sharon Davis, Dean Elliott, and Debra Heddins. Sharon also was assistant director, and Debra and Dean assisted in makeup. The Dear Departed was pre- sented in the auditorium for the community a week before the contest.
