The key to such an asset is having a president completely and un- reservedly yielded to the Lord, and dedicated to the furtherance of His Word. MI. Miles is such a president. All who know him have seen in him adeep-seated desire that Christ be first in his life. A man devoted to his family and appreciated by all is the founder and president of the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music, Rev. John Miles. Nancy Van Prooyen, Editor-in-Chief The production of the 1969 PHERON brought many changes to the book from those of past years, More pages were added, more pictures used, more issues were published and color was used for the first time, The staff put in many hours in helping to achieve the goal of making this the best PI-IERON ever, It was decided that Taylor Publishing Company would print this year's PHERON, Mr, Lee Zim- merman, a representative of Taylor, worked closely with the editors in the production of this book, Despite these improvements, the cost per issue has decreased from last year, It is hoped that these changes will lead to further improvements in the future, Pheron Staff Captured Year's Highlights Gerry Mathisen, Assistant Editor Nancy and Gerry sorted through hundreds of pic- tures to find those to be used in the Pl-IERON, f f Bolthouse Copy Staff: fStandingD D, McCready, K, Hoel, J, Sterly, fSeatedJT, Barnes, S, Kribs, T, Salerno Photographers: B, Achenbach, M, Malaniak Art Staff: S, Coles, J. It has never been a governmental body, There are many affairs which deal with the student body that are handled either by or through the Student Council, Basically, all of the social functions are co-ordinated by the council, with exception of those presented by the individual classes, Some of the yearly activities of the Student Council are the freshman mixer, the tug of war, the Christmas party, and Valentine special dur- ing the winter months, and the highlight of the school's social life, the Spring Banquet, The Council offers real opportunities for leadership, service, and expressionfor many students each year, Student Council Served Admirably fLeft to Rightl Karen Collins, Secretary S,C, Representatives Seated: Sharon Grimes, Arlis Hettinga Standing: Lyle Ihde, Fred Workman, Rob Mould, Vice-President Sharon McLain, Dan Dinsmore lerrie Burkholder, Treasurer Missing: Don Brown i The Pep Club is an organization that encourages school spirit in many ways, Most of the Pep Club Q i activities take place during the basketball season, il, A Supplying the gym with Pep Banners and working ' ' A with the cheerleaders in organizing pep rallies are -, its biggest responsibilities, 4 li., A . The Guild members are women from supporting churches, faculty wives, women teachers, wives of students, and single stu- dents, The Ladies Guild this year undertook such tasks as the refurnishing of the lounge at Park Place, and providing new drapes for the dining hall, and new coat racks for the entrance to the dining hall, The money to pay for these items came from free-will offerings given at the Guild meetings, The most important part of the Guild Ministry, however, is the prayers offered for the students and faculty of the school, One of the highlights for the Ladies Guild was the supper in the new dining hall for the mem bers and their husbands, K x 29 3 x 'Ni 4 . ,f , WA., CHORALAIRES I BACK ROW: M, Nelson: Beirnfohr: Hoel: Orr: Mathisen: SECOND ROW: Workman: Frantz: Mittleider: S, Nelson: Burkholder: Hanna: Wolframe: Wichen: FRONT ROW: Dennis: Wickes: Miles: Barnes: K, Collins: Sterly: Bell: Parker: Hammond: MISSING- - .
