'I' 'v Charles Hoppe, treasurer, Eleanor Hook, secretary, Al Brown, vice-president, Gerrit Velders, president. UNE, 1947, for some, means the end of college days and the beginning of a new life, and for others it is only the two-year mark in a college career. Whatever their position, however, the Sophs will have one thing in common - a year of good times. With the election of class officers in the fall, the Sophomore Class was officially launched. Those chosen were: President, Gerrit Velders, Vice- President, A1 Brown, Secretary, Eleanor Hook, and Treasurer, Charles Hoppe. The Class found Christmas spirit, complete with Santa Claus, at the Yuletide Mixer held in St. Marks Church. Entertainment was provided by our Master of Ceremonies, Reverend Dale Turner, and the whole class singing our favorite Christ- mas carols. In March the Class turned back the clock and sponsored an old-fashioned Box Social. The girls responded with elaborately decorated boxes and good eats, while the boys bid for the prettiest 73 boxes and the prettiest girl. The climax was a bid by that man-about-J. C., Jack Ripstra, when he bid 5.63 and a car check! After being well fed, everyone square-danced to the calls of do se do , and alamond left. lt was definitely a night to be remembered! In April, the Class ushered in the Spring with the Spring Swing, an all-school dance. May brought the annual picnic-complete with gen- erous portions of fun and food. lt was then time for the more serious part of the Sophomore year. In the Honor Convocation the newly-elected mem- bers in Delta Pi Alpha Honor Society were named. Graduation was brought sharply into focus in June at the Baccalaureate Services. The Honor Society members were guests at the annual dinner sponsored by the Sophomore Class. The Formal Commencement exercises brought a close to the year - a year of memories and friend- ships we will all be able to recall for the rest of our lives.
