Throughout our three year attendance at Chris- tian we have found Miss Ten Broek to be a source of never ending. helpfulness and cheerfulness, al- ways willing and able to be of assistance to any bewildered student. With lingering memories we recall the American Literature classes instructed by her. Never will we forget her sparkling personality, her graceful man- ner, her keen sense of humor, her appropriate sense of satire, her unlimited vocabulary, and her el- oquence. Most of all, however, we will remember her Christian example, in class and out of class. For her inspiring qualities of teachingg coupled with her talents of music and iournalism, we proudly dedicate this Memoir to Miss S. Ten Broek. We serve at Open House and other school events, and raise money by Sales, Book Reviews, Hostess' Dinners and other means. We also' run the Checking Room and sell candy at the Gym for all games. At some of our meetings we sew and work, and at others feature speakers or programs. This year we have pledged Q25 00.00 to the R. 5. V. P. Expansion Campaign, payable within three years. We Covet a large membership in accordance with our large student enrollment, and invite mothers to ioin our group. Christian High covers a large territory and we realize that some could attend only infrequently, but we would like your name on our list. We are happy because of the new members added this year, and hope that more mothers will ioin the trend and belong to Christian High Ladies' Circle, thus creating for yourselves a greater and closer interest in the school which your child attends. Du ring the past three years you have been given an opportunity for study, discussion, self-expression, contemplation, and meditation, all this for the express purpose of preparing for the final examinations and ultimately for graduation. However, graduation or commencement is not the end but the beginning, the beginning of great responsibilities that are now placed upon you because of the fact that you have re- ceived your education in a Christian school. ln effect, the very future of the Christian school system, under God, depends on you its graduates. Will you be willing to uphold, maintain, and support your schools in the future as God gives you the ability to do so? Are you willing now to pray that the real purpose of distinctive Christian Education may never become clouded, or ever lost completely among the present day trends to be like unto the world in all things? The influence of your Alma Mater on the world today depends greatly on your performing lifes duties faithfully and reverently, not for the praise of men or for payment in material things, but all to the glory of God. A missionary, home on furlough, once told how she was teaching a group of children one day. ln telling the story of Jesus, how he lived and died for His own, she brought out, bit by bit, incidents showing His character. One child, listening intently, blurted out eagerly, I know Him, He lives near us. Can others see Christ in you? That is what the training you have received should accomplish. We may not only wish that you have prosperity, honor, fame, and freedom from care. All these are pleasant to have, but they are connected with time, things which can ber seen for a while and soon disappear, as they are the treasures of this earth. Our prayer for you is that Christ may dwell in your hearts, and that you may know the ioy unspeakable, and in all things may you be more than conquerors through Him that loved you. Bane The Concert Band had a very busy and enioy- able year. Daily practice sessions, concerts, district and state festivals, parades, rallies, and many other activities have contributed to make the Band a truly live organization. Here, we have learned to play and march together. Under the competent and kind leadership of Mr. Vander Puy, we believe we have reached a marked degree of success. Some of the high spots of the past season have been the Reformation Day Rally, Veteran's Day Parade, Con- cert Band and Senior Choir Concert, District Band Festival, and the Memorial Day Parade. New in- struments added during the past year are a kettle drum, two E fiat flutes, and two bassoons. To top the season a banquet plus an outing at Camp Mani- tou-Iin was enioyed. Did we enioy being in the band? We wouldn't have missed it. lst row: Judy Helder Marianne Mulder .Ioan Kulpers Tom Hoek Janice Brmk Betty Harkema Ednth Swnerenga Elaine Bouterse. 2nd row: Carole Wybenga, Kathy 3rd row: Joanne John Rottschafer, 4th row: Ken Zylstra David Vredevoogd Dan De Vries Howard Stab Jon Bouma Jlm Cremer lst row: Fred Hotstra, Karen Vander Ark, Betty Broersma, Dorothy Feenstra, Diane Peters Margorre Jansen Jacob Toering, La Roy Tymes. 2nd row: Maynard Flikkema, Dick Setsma, John Fongers, Faith Koning, Bob Tania, Bruce Scherpennrsse Bob Rrtsema Mary Vander Wall, Keith Taylor. 3rd row: Ron Calsbeek, Ron Bengelink, Ron Quist, Jim Grasman, Jim Bos, Mary Ann De Loot Wm Kok Jim Vanden Berg, Alvin Walburg, Sam Warmenhoven, Dick Roeters, Henry Post. 4th row: Faith Aldering, Mr. Vander Puy. Every day the band practiced for their concerts. During the month of October the band was seen marching down Prospect Ave., practicing our pivots for the Veteran's Day Parade in which we took part. During the first semester of this year the band members were seen selling everything from maga- zines to stay green and it proved quite profitable. As to appearance we played our hearts out at the concert in our gym on February twentieth as well as marching in the Memorial Day parade and the Tulip Festival parade. The band would like to thank Mr. Vander Puy for working with us and in making this year a success. Formed from all the string players at the school and directed by Mr. Vander Puy, we enioyed a good season as a newly organized group. We worked hard this year, both in sectionals and as a group, and augmented by a few winds from the band, we accomplished the task of bringing into existence a good orchestra. Now that we have laid the foundation for an orchestra we are eagerly anticipating the next year and the arrival of twenty new string players. With an enlarged group and past experience, we hope we can make next year even more profitable than this year. 41h Row: P. Ten Elshof, K. Visser, J. Smilde, K. Schipper, P. Bordewyk, B. Monsmu, A. These and many other questions were answered to those who belonged to the Tenth Grade Future Teacher's Club. Under the capable leader- ship of Miss Menninga, our sponsor, we endeavored to learn about the teaching profession. With speakers and discussions, we learned all the op- portunities and qualifications of a teacher, as well as the problems that a teacher faces. Since there are so many students at Christian in- terested in teaching, the club has been divided into three separate clubs, for the tenth, eleventh, and twelth grades. Each has its own club sponsor and officers. The activities of the Tenth Grade Future Teachers Club included such things as conducting chapel ser- vices and selling Future Teacher's Club pins. All in all, this year was a very successful one for the Club. Futuna teachens luis nth amos The Junior Future Teacher's Club has been very active this year. With Mr. Van Tol as our sponsor, we have had films and speakers at our meetings. An added attraction for the entire Future Teach- er's Club was the panel discussion held in February. Those mem- bers answered such questions as: ls the discipline problem greater in Junior High?
