' ' Joe Ollebeke' Gcmge The Board To the Graduates of 1958: The Board wishes to take this opportunity to congratulate you upon reaching this stage of your education. According to lfVebster, education is: instruction and training in an institution of learning, and the systematic development and cultivation of the natural pow- ers, by inculcation and example. To be sure, Christian education to which you have been exposed these past three years, is all this and much more. Christianity in education is not a separate course in religion that has been added to the other courses of study, as one would attach a garage to a house. The Christian theory of education is a positive belief in the idea that Christianity is a world and life view, and as such must permeate each and every course in the curriculum. Human reason is used in the process of learning, but it always must be guided and corrected by divine revelation in jesus Christ and in the Bible. Mfe believe that you, as graduates of the Christian school system, are now better able to dis- cover your abilities and their meanings, and, as a result, will now go forward encouraged to use your education not to get things, but for the glory of God, by being of service to men. What lies behind you and what lies before you is not nearly as important as what lies within you. We say this because as you face an era of vast scientific development, rest assured that God is not found in the test tubes of the nation's laboratories, but in the hearts and lives of each one of you. May the secondary Christian education you have received be a means of open- ing up the way to far greater accomplishments, and may the principles of Chris- tianity be of primary consideration in whatever field of endeavor you choose to follow. Alfred G. Gelderloos, Secretary
