De Bie, Laura Jansma, Mary Westra, Steve Monsma, Glenn Peterson Back row: Bill Wiebengo, Bob Bosscher, Bob Ammeraol, Jack Monsma This year's debate team had one of the best seasons in recent years, achieving a total of seven- teen wins and ten losses. This included eight wins and two losses in a pre-season tournament at Ferris Institute, five wins and three losses in the city league, four wins and four losses in the state league, and one loss in the state tournament. Because of its regular season record the team won the right to participate in the state tournament at Ann Arbor, but was defeated by a strong Hazel Park team. The team also debated before the student body in a special assembly. This year's topic was Resolved: that the Presi- dent of the United States should be elected by the direct vote of the people. The squad would like to thank Mr. Nelvin Vos, the coach, and Mr. John De Bie, the faculty spon- sor, for their time and eftort to make the season a success. NNN Bob, laura and Steve Coach Vos 27

We have studied the lives and works of the great composers. One of the most outstanding meetings was the one in which Mr. Donald D. Armstrong, from the Grand Rapids Symphony, spoke to us. Under the direction of Mrs. Trena Haan, our meetings have not been only educational, but also very enioyable. 28 L
