The Christian has a man- date too, as soldier-citizen of the Kingdom of God, given by Christ Himself, to be His witness. This task must be militant, forceful, pressing, with- out interruption, and present in all activities of life or he fails in his duty. Whether it be in a profession, in business, in the arts, in government or civic organiza- tions, irrespective of the temporal objectives, his wit- ness, motivated by the love of his King, must unflinch- ingly be there. This means combat with the kingdoms of this world, that is, the ideologies of paganism, mo- dernism, and materialism. The Board and faculty of Grand Rapids Christian High School, as representatives of your parents, have been very conscious of this conflict and have sought to equip you for it. A basic training of one hundred twenty weeks with God's Training Manual shedding light in your work had this objective. As Covenant Youth, you are citizens and soldiers of this Kingdom. God has witnessed to you in your baptism, in your home, church, and school, and this is your fire power and it is effective. This battle cry is Repent, Believe and Conquer! We congratulate each one of you on the completion of your course, and our hope and prayer is that you will take this witness into the office, into your higher education, or into whatever occupation God leads you. Post, principal of Christian High, has a very touchy job, but fills it very competently. His sense of justice commands the student's respect, while his unique sense of humor makes him a favorite with all, We, the senior class, wish to express our thanks to Mr. Post for his understanding of our problems and his ability to choose the right. 9 ,nw ,:i'j'vi,f4-'Q-i'r , ,V if' fi ,,f V ' Cf? i 'Q .gy , 'ff , K. The time has come that some of us must leave. Our three years at Christian have flown as an even ng of interesting conversation does. We are sorry we must leave, for we still have a warm spot in our hearts for Christian High. Yet, we are eager to go into the world and serve God, whom we feel we are better able to serve since we have had a Christian education We are deeply grateful to God for placing in the hearts of many, a spirit of sacrifice which has made this Christian High possibl-e. We are grateful for its founders who boldly faced the difficulties of starting a Christian High School, but who with foresight saw the possibility of its success, for the large staff which has served through the years so that young people might profit from a God-centered education, for the unselfish- efforts of the various boards who have given their time and talent to further the cause of Christian Highg for our Ladies Circle, who gave their labor of love, for our class sponsors, Miss Newcomb and Mr. De Vroome for their special guidance through Christian High to us, the class of January 52 and for the many others wh.o have in any way contributed to our education and advancement. Now to my fellow students: the road ahead appears dark and unsettled, but God has given to us, as to the children of Israel, a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to guide us in the way designated in our class text: Deut. 31 6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, not be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee, he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee Some of our young men will be called to the colors. To them God has given a special guide in Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Besides these guides, God has given many others fulfilling each ones 1nd1v1 dual needs. In these clouds by day and pillars by night, we find our hope for whatever lies beyond january, 1952, confident that the Lord our God doth go with us, he will not fail us, nor forsake usf' Paul De Vries, Pres. - Class of Ian., 1952 22 LA VENDE ANI IILII LACE ,sf n is FQ 32 ng, Ulrucrrd by Mr. M. Yet, by referring to our graduation as a climax, we must not stop here but we must continue to go on, some of us to college, some of us into business, but all into the world, and with that venture we must stand as a light shining forth for our God. Our three years at this institution have passed swiftly. We all still remember when we entered this school as diminutive freshmen, with no idea of graduation or of the rapidity which would bring us to this event. As we reflect a moment upon our stay here at Christian High, We feel hon- ored to have been able no receive our preparation for life in a school which puts God above all and which features His divine will in every one of its subjects. This is truly a blessing to be prized. We have seen excellent Christian Characters and personalities displayed before us by our faithful and patient teachers. God has been good to us and we are grateful. And being grateful, We must seek to express our gratitude. Our God deserves the highest thanks for without Him we can do nothing. He hath provided us with this school and all that it stands for. We thank our parents, too, for their untiring efforts of sacrifice in order to make this experience a reality for us. We also wish to express our gratitude to the board, faculty, Mr. Post and all others so connected with this school who have helped to make this education possible. - Our class sponsors, Mr. S. Stuk and Mr. W. Vryhof, deserve our sincerest thanks for having guided us as a class through our years here. And you, the constituency of Christian High, also merit our thanks for your loyal and constant support. And now, as we pay these last tributes there is a mixture of feelings in our hearts. Indeed, there is a little sadness in bidding farewell, for we have formed many friendships with both teachers and fellow-students. We have also enjoyed many pleasant moments - moments and friendships which we shall miss. But there is also a joyous side, for, with God's help, we have finished an -education which prepares us for our future. May I say this to my fellow-graduates - that in whatever we choose to do, we can be assured of the promise contained in our class text - I can do all things through Christ who strengthenest me. May we all take that comfort with us as we depart into our respective paths of life. And it is our prayer that God may continue to bless this school in the years to come. JOHN WARNERS President of the Class of June, 1952 43 Jlllll0RS 'lass of January 1953 Standing - Joan, Joyce. Seated - Mrs. Haan, jim, Miss Ten Brock. Camera shy - ROL! Van Korlaar. Uur class has Finally reached its goal - that of being seniors. Now we can look upon the freshmen and juniors as we were once looked upon when We were under classmen. The fact that we are a midyear class, and therefore small in number, does not prevent us from having good times together. The lunior Banquet was a big suc- cess and everyone had their share of fun. Of course, much credit is due to our sponsors, Mrs, T. Haan and Miss S. Ten Broek, who have done so much to make our past two years at Christian High pleasant ones. We entered Christian High the same way all other freshmen have, with a frightened look on our face. Now, however, we seem to be approaching january 1954 very rapidly. Highlights of the past year have been a picnic in june and a hayride in No- vember. We are looking forward to many more good times during our stay here. We would like to express our appreciation to our sponsors, Mr. G. Feyen and Mr. D. Stravers, for their assistance in our activities. President .... ..................... At first everything seemed a little strange to us, but it didnlt take long for us to become a part of Christian High. Soon after we became acquainted with our classmates, we held our first class meeting. At this time, We selected our class ofiicers and met our able sponsors, Miss R. Blauw, Mr. M. Van Dyke, and Mr. Al. De Haan. During November, We presented a program of freshmen talent. Cf course, we felt highly honored to perform before the Lipper classmen. This program dem' onstrated that we possess a great amount of talent in our class. Our first year at Christian High, which was an enjoyable one, will soon draw to a close. We are eagerly looking forward to the coming years at Christian High. President ..,........, ..... B ruce Van Duinen Vice-president ,.,.. ........, D ave Walters Secretary ......... Membership to the National Scholastic Press Association was renewed. Besides -editing a worthwhile bifweekly newspaper, the staff also contributed a part in other school affairs. Concessions at exam time, skating party, and paper drive provided entertainment for many, to say nothing of the second annual per' formance of Spring Fever. Miss G. 'lohnnie De Mey and Ron Kunnen have been bear- ing the bulk of the pitching burden so far, with ,lohnnie having turned in two one-hit perform- ances and Ron sporting a low .93 earned run average. Thus far in the campaign the boys are resting in second place having won three games and lost two. Kunnen and Chuck Ezinga are leading the batsman, each holding an average slightly over .500 at this Writing. Much credit for the success of the team is due to Coach ,lack Boelema for the manner in which he handles the squad. The boys also co-operate by being present at all the practices.
