PRIDE AND PREJUDI E Class HISTOFY Three years ago a group of one hundred and seventy frve frlghtened freshles could be seen slmlang through the halls attemptmg to appear as calm and WISE as the Iunrors and Sen1ors Slowly these httle groups of students became accustomed to the burldmgs and were able to fmd thetr respectrve rooms Though th1s was one of the most tmportant events of our hrgh school career lt was not one of the most 1oyous ln splte of 1t all we lrved through 1t and are none the worse for 1t The next step was to organlze the class Imagme our del1ght when we were mformed that our class was prtvtleged to be under the guldance and leader shlp of Mr S Stuk and Mr I Trmmerman Already we knew that we were m for some good tlmes Although the students appeared qu1te rgnorant at f1rst they showed therr wlsdom ln the selectmg of the flrst offlcers Our flrst Presr dent was Elton Plersma who proved h1mself very capable of the POSITION The soclal act1v1t1es of the class began Wlth a get acquamted skatlng party whtch all enloyed to the full ln September 1943 we agaln made our way to the corner of Franklm and Madlson wrth our heads h1gh real1z1ng that we were now lumorsl Thrs t1me the re1ns were put lnto the hands of B111 Post who also ftlled thls posrtton very ably One of the many events of our Iumor year was a hayr1de whlch was a suc cess as were all of our undertakrngs As usual plans were made to enterta1n the Sen1ors at a banquet whlch was held 1D the Sprlng at the Fountam St Baphst Church Both lunlors and Sen1ors looked forward to th1s event Wllh great ant1c1pat1on but were a b1t d1sappo1nted when the mov1e prolector re fused to entertam us It was also 1n our Iuruor year that we were saddened by the loss of a fellow classmate and frrend Elward V1s He was taken from us on December 31 IQ43 Though he had been w1th us only four months he proved to be a good student and a fa1thful steward May we never forget Elward whom we now bel1eve to be m the Eternal Home Z8 f 1 - 1 1 1 - 1 ' 1 Finally we claimed the title of Seniors with an all eyes this way attitude That year the class meetings x ere led by lohn Vander Molen and lrn certain that th se pleasant successful neetings were not due to our behavior but to the winning Nay of our President Tien carne the greatest of all events the presentation of the Senior Play of tne Feoruary graduates and proved to be such a success that it Nas again presented before a full House on Ianuary l This credit belongs not only to the actors on the stage but also to their capable director Miss Thea lane Bouma Now we are looking forward to the Class outing to exams and to corn rnencernent We take this opportunity to thank our excellent sponsors Mr Stuk and Mr Tirrirnerrnan for their interest leadership and the Jolly friendship that they have offered to the class of 45 Now that the time is drawing near when we must bid adieu to Grand Rapids Christian High we all leave hesitatingly and all feel grateful to the faculty for the training they have given us for the ideals they have set before us and also for their valuable companionship May our lives be evidence of the fact that we have been blessed with a Christian Education ARLENE VERDUIN .
