MAX BODINE-12 Max did a fine job as a regular de- fensive halfback. Max's illness during early training kept him from playing of- fense. Max is a Senior. CHARLES BRUNSON-85 Charlie saw a lot of action at the end of the season. He will be back next year and should do a good job for the Gophers. WADE BURRIS-72 Wade saw limited action, but will be back next year, giving someone trouble for his position. CLAUDIE CASTLEBERRY-31 One of the smallest boys on the squad, but his desire and determination made him a fine halfback. Claudie is back next year and should be a big help to the Gophers. JOHN BLANTON-65 One of the Tri-captains, was a fine boy on both of- fense and defense. John is a Senior. DUDLY CHAMBERS-82 Dudley did a fine job at offensive end. He will be back next year and should be a fine end. DAN DUFF-74 Dan was hampered by a shoulder in- jury most of the season. Dan did an excellent job on offense as a regular. Dan is a Senior. JAMES EDMONDSON-77 James did a fine job on both offense and defense. Worked hard and has a fine spirit. Will he rough in '54-. JON GRIFFITH-25 A fine boy, was an altemate at quarter- back. Jon is a Senior. J. R. HALL-80 One of the Tri-captains, J. R. did a fine job as a regular defensive end. J. R. is a Senior. JERRY DeFORD-84 Jerry was injured most of the season, but worked hard for his letter. Jerry is a Senior. ? 4 .x JOHN HENDRICKS-so An outstanding lineman. John did a fine job on both offense and defense. John had good spirit and a lot of hustle. He is a Senior. JIMMY HUMPHREY-22 Jimmy altemated at quarterback. He will be back next year and should be a big help to the Gophers. J OE HUTTO--'13 Joe, a Sophomore, saw limited action, but will be plenty rough before he graduates. NUBBIN JONES-86 Nubbin saw limited action but worked hard and had a fine spirit. He should do a fine job in '54. TUBBA KEASLER-34 Tubba was a hard running halfback. He made two of the Gophers' longest runs for touchdowns this season in the Cleburne and Garland games. Tubba is a Senior. LEO HORN-76 Leo saw limited action. Leo will be back next year and should do a fine job. BOBBY SMITH-54 Smitty achieved the goal of most line- men when he intercepted a pass and scored in the Arlington game. A de- fensive regular linehacker, Smitty will be hack in '54. RAYMOND STEWART-61 Raymond worked hard and had a fine spirit. He saw limited duty but will be back next year giving someone a fight for a starting berth. JAMES TRAMMELL-66 James saw limited action, but was a real rustler with a fine spirit. James is a Senior. RALPH SARGENT-26 One of the Tri-captains. In- juries kept Ralph out most of the season. He had a fine spirit, and doesn't know what the word quit means. Ralph is a Senior. MILES TURNER-62 Miles had a lot of hustle and fine spirit. He did a good job on both offense and defense. Miles is a Senior. REBI-'ORD WILKINS-55 A Junior, Rebford was a good line- backer on defense and should be plenty rough in '54, RAY WIMBERLY-33 Ray did a fine job as a halfback and fullback. The boys showed a desire to win that car- ried them through a fine season. G.P. 6 - SUNSET 12 Handicapped hy a very serious weight disadvantage, the boys fought hard and played well in this game. On several different occasions the B Gophers stopped Cunset inside the 15-yard line. lt seemed the game was to end in a 6-6 tie. but in the last 30 seconds Sunset completed a long desperation pass for a touchdown, that won the game. G.P.13 - CLEBURNE 6 Trailing 6-0 at the end of the first half. G.P. came back to win 13-6. Cleburne dominated the entire play the first half. Three different times the Gophers had to hold Cle- burne inside the 5-yard line. Led by Hendricks, the B boys caught fire the second half and came on to win. G.P.12 - PLEASANT GROVE 6 Playing in the mud, the Gophers struck for two.touch- downs in the first 2 minutes and then had to fight to win. A fine tackle by Farmer saved a G.P. touchdown the last play of the game. G.P. 32 - JESUIT 0 Scoring the first 3 times they had the ball, the Gophers built up an early lead, then went on to an easy victory. Quarterback Ronnie Spenser did a fine job in passing and play selection. Hendricks and Walsh did a good job of carrying the ball. The entire B Gopher line did a thor- ough job on both offense and defense. G.P. 32-GARLAND 0 The Gophers completely dominated play in this game. lt was such a team victory that no boy can be singled out for praise. G.P. 25 - HIGHLAND PARK 20 The Scotties completely dominated play in the early part of this game on long runs and sharp defense. They were ahead up to the final 4 minutes when Spencer passed to Blanton for a touchdown. On the next series of downs, Blanton blocked a pass and Young intercepted and ran for a touchdown. Ray Walsh was the spark in this game. His running and fierce desire to win continually kept the young Gophers in the game. G.P. 32 - ARLINGTON 0 This was another case of fine team play completely shattering the opponents. Blocking was crisp, tackling was vicious, ball handling, running, and passing was good.
