H S Green as only Fresh ,, men can be our first lmpressxon was of the vastness of the bulldmff 6.5, Would we ever be able to find ourselves about3 Could we lrve mga' down the scorn and hatred that falrly shown from the faces of the Senlors and UHIOYS3 And lt dad seem for the first few weeks that the answer was No V However this stave soon passed Then came the time when we put our bashfulness asxde and elected offlc ers the results bemv D Davis President Vice President Norman Reeder and Secretary and Treasurer George VanHorn Soon after this our Hrst attempt at getting orvamzed the umors our worthy colleagues entertained us at a Hamburg Fry which was held xt the Park the usual Mecca of G L H S students Can Freshmen eat3 Well l must say and we were no exceptlons The Seniors now that the umors had so royally entertaxned us seemed just a wee blt less scornful but stxll they lnslnuated that they knew everything and we nothing Fmally after belng able to meet a Senior unlor or Sophomore wrthout We determined then to put forth our greatest efforts 1n helpmv to promote what was for us an entirely new experience Folly Day We dnd fl ht that day but at no apparent avail however for slowly but surely we were pulled through the creek ln order to remove from our mlnds the stmg of defeat we decided that the most natural thing to do would be to have a party and this we dld Was xt a success3 It need not be mentioned for every member of the Class of 28 will tell you that It was This ended our difficult but valuable Freshman year Sadder but wrser than the year before we prepared to enter our Sopho more year at G L H S Our officers thus year were Presldent Rxchard Pierce Vice Presldent Harold Haysmer and Secretary and Treasurer Sylva Case The out standmg events were flfbt a feed rn the Gym that showed plaln ly that we had lost none of our Freshman qualltxes and second the annual Senior Sophomore party Here we may say our actxvltles ceased At the beginning of our unxor year our forces were augmented by many new Classmen from nearby schools In a very busmess like manner we elected our Class OHICCIS President Dorothy Davis Vice President Sylva Case Secretary Harry Thompson and Treasurer Dale Snyder Because of our added dxlwence and power we were allowed to take part In the dress up Day or as xt IS called Folly Day There were many different costumes one of the most Important bennv a Pirate Band After paradmff through the streets and wlthdrawxng to the park we yomed m the sports Agam we were pulled through the creek ln order to forget this we mvnted the Freshmen and had a Wiener Roast at the Park The Glrls rn order to get their Mothers better acquainted Gave Mother s and Daughter s Banquet whlch was a Great success We now began to think and plan for the Annual Banquet whlch the umors always vrve the Seniors at Graduation So-on the Wednesday night before Graduation the Banquet was held amid the sea weed and fish of the ocean bed After the program which was ln keepmg with the Nautical atmos phere the whole party adjourned to the K P Hall for the Annual jumor Semor Dance I'1lj ' fllll'4'lllll'N1'l'1'll ' X57 hs- . . . . . ., D l , - ,' H1 - ' , . Pugf S1 :ly 0 We had a bw squad out for track thls eason and they did Hne work We entered ID to a number of meets and were able to place ln most of them It certalnly made us proud when Leon Haze placed ln the meet at East Lan sxng because that was an honor that anyone Could be proud of Besides the number of state meets we ran ln there was a track and field meet between Grand Ledge and Charlotte held at Grand Ledge l was an excellent meet and the score was tled up untll the relay Our team won from the fast Charlotte team and we won the meet There was an unusually larffe squad of under year men out this year and prospects for a wmnmv team are ahead We have some fine track material to work with and there IS no doubt that Grand Leclve will soon become worthy foe IH track as well as ln all other sports Here s to the success of all future track teams from Grand Ledge Hwh .Dchool H!
