Title 1 What A Time It Was . . . The Year 1978 6 Opening Tom Burns and Chris Otto Opening 7 Opening 9 School Life Division 11 mm Memories That Last A Lifetime With school beginning once more, students soon become involved in activities, whether it involves studying, competing, or just simply having a good time. 12 School Life “Tigers Are Still The One” Senior Attcndant-Linda Miller Homecoming Queen-Thcresa DiThomas Junior Attendant-Jennie Pond Making this Homecoming special, it was decided to alter the tradition of floats. Carts and mini-floats were instituted in their place. Reigning over the weeks activities, ending with the dance, were Queen, Theresa DiThomas; Senior Attendant, Linda Miller; Junior Attendant, Jennie Pond; Sophomore Attendant, Brenda Parker. The Homecoming theme was “Tigers Are Still the Sophomore Attendant-Brenda Parker One.” 14 School Life Twirlcrs Dorian McKclvic and Dcbi Schiesswohl display Senior class races to victory in the chariot race, talent at half time show. The Game; A Time For All One of the major events of Homecoming was the game. Spirit and enthusiasm was raised during the week by special activities and a pep rally held before the game. The game proved to be, to some, “boring” with a final score of 59-0. The Tigers took a wide half time lead. The spirit was obvious by just watching the bleachers. School Life 15 Homecoming Parade Has Change In Direction The senior class float. One of the many floats in the parade. Banner girls display the banner. Along with other changes, the parade had a change in direction. Instead of starting on 2nd st. and going to 8th st., the direction was reversed. In the competitive events, seniors captured first in the chariot race, balloon competition and tied with the language clubs for first in the banner competition. The seniors were defeated by the sophomores, however, in the mini-float competition. For organizations, Art Club took first. Work Experience Study’s cart was voted as the best. Sophomore class float. 16 School Life School Life 17 A S Activities Replace Dance. This year, instead of the annual Christmas Dance (renamed as the Holiday dance last year) there were a number of activities to take it’s place. These included the tromp sponsored by NHS, a special Christmas play written by Arne McConnell and Todd Rutt, the Christmas party sponsored by Student Council for the teachers children, the door decorating contest and the canned food drive. Also there were special concerts by the vocal and instrumental music departments. The Octavos expressed their Christmas cheer to children. Santa's Helpers (the Banner Girls) warned us all about Christmas do’s and don’ts. 18 School Life Christmas: A Time Rev. Foster inspired us with the true meaning of Christmas. For All Students carried the Christmas spirit throughout the halls. Back School Life 33 Memories Are All That Remain Another school year comes to an end. It marks an end before a new beginning for some, and just another chapter in each of our lives. All we have to remember the year by are our memories- either happy or sad .. . ... and what a time it was. L. Berry finds peace after everyone has left. Throughout the year, hopes floated in the air. Looking back, we can remember the times we have spent at Grand Junction High School. We are able to recall many events which have helped us grow both physically and mentally. These events will stay in our minds for many years. But, as each day ends we have to store their happenings in our minds so we’ll have them to cherish forever. A. Pctefish meets a challenge. T. Anderson finds that things which seem bad, turn out alright. 34 School Life g£ UOISIA1Q intu ej Problems exist at G.J.H.S. These problems, however, are of a manageable size and much is right in Tiger Land. There is no other school with which I would rather be associated than Grand Junction High. Grand Junction High School has been a pleasant and refreshing experience for me. The positive attitudes of staff and students make this the quality school that it is. Any student who desires a sound, quality education can get it at Grand Junction High School if he is willing to expend the effort. We offer sound and varied programs in music, athletics, academics, and vocational areas coupled with healthy social interaction.
