They began with new ideas in the float competition. The regular flatbed was discarded, and an old hearse was brought in. After winning first place honors in the contest, they launched onward with new ideas. Their project for the school was to fill up the big holes in back of the gym with cement. Later in the year, on April Fools Day, they held a dart throwing contest. At the end of the year, there was the traditional Senior picnic as students looked forward to graduation. Organizations 157 Organizations Provide Entertainment Most clubs are thought of as just an after school meeting, but there are always a handful of clubs which work hard and benefit their school. These clubs have hard working members which rarely receive the recognition they deserve. For example, the Tigerettes practice routines daily as well as many hours spent after school, perfecting their techniques. Student Council assembles twice a week to meet and discuss events which will supply the student body with a readily available quantity of entertainment. The band and orchestra groups are always at the games and providing concerts for the students and public. The group had a new activity this year which was an Ice Cream Social. An informal gathering, with old-fashioned, homer made ice cream, helped cool the evening heat as the band played for the audience's listening pleasure. These represent only a partial list of other energetic clubs at Grand Junction High. Now the band provides some entertainment for the Ice Cream Social. 158 Organizations The strength to believe in. Our city began its birthday celebration with an Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade. The 1920 street lights were also put back in service. GJHS did its part by participating in a Bi-Centennial week.
