Music Club gives Modern Music Masters is an organization tor high school students who like to get together to sing, play and enjoy music. ln Grand lsland High School there is an instrumental music masters and a vocal music masters group. Usually these groups are held individually, but once in a while a joint meeting is held tor initiation ot members, or installation ot otticers. lt has been just recently that Grand Island has become attiliated with the national organization. This year a convention was held in Hastings during the time ot the music clinic. Each group in the state Christmas Program sends representatives tor state otticers and a small music group to pertorm. Arlene Urban was elected state president, and Kenny Schettel, historian. Most ot the year is spent in rehearsal tor one or more programs presented by the organization. This year a Christmas program was presented and one student assembly program. MMM pertormed at the state school board convention. New members are chosen on interest, ability, and scholarship. 'm Pulelleers show lulenls ol Mardi Gros The highlight ot the year tor Paletteers was the Mardi Gras dance held February 25 in the girls' gym at school. The theme ot the dance was in accordance to the actual Mardi Gras celebrated annually in New Ore leans. Both costumes and semi-formal dress were worn, and prizes were given tor the best costumes. Ticlcets, decorated as halt maslcs, were sold at what resembled a circus ticlcet booth. Initiation ot new members at a covered dish sup' per was the Paletteers' tirst activity ot the year. The membership was brought up to 30. Carl Wegener, Senior l-ligh's art instructor, is the sponsor ot Pal- etteers. At one ot the intormal meetings, a demonstration ot flower arrangements was made by a local tloral shop. Among the club's projects were painting the nurs- ery winclows at the Veterans' Hospital and present- ing each child with a gitt. ln the tall, Paletteers sponsored an hour dance at school. To acquire an interest in some torm ot art and have tun doing it is the chief purpose ot Paletteers.
