Many music students also participated in the Exchange Program which was held at Kearney this year. The selection ot talent was the result ot tryouts. The District IV Music Contest was held at Grand Island this year. The big project ot the music department was the variety show, Melody Momentsfi which was pre' sented to the public on February 25. The show consisted ot three acts representing different nation- alities, Japanese, ltalians, and Americans. Diclq Weaver and Mary Ellen Anderson played the lead- ing roles. Many new faces were seen on this yearis staff, a new faculty adviser, and many students who are new to the Journalism Department. The Islander functions somewhat on the order of a commercial newspaper. Each student who works on the Islander has a weelcly beat to follow and a cer- tain number ot stories to turn in during the week. Because ot the way students, teachers, principals and businessmen support the Islander, it is published weekly. The alumni ot Senior I-Iigh also help pay tor the Islander with their subscriptions tor each issue. New ideas have helped the Journalism Depart- ment in a lot ot ways. The idea ot a Pub Board was new this year. The Publications Board will be composed ot tour students and tour faculty mem- bers.
