Each year physical education classes under the supervision of Bob Gregory work on the trampoline. Keglers Form New League One of the new organizations formed this year was the Grand Island Junior Bowl- ing Congress QGIJBCJ. The boys active in the league learned some bowling and had lots of fun. The league started off with 18 boys who composed six teams. Many of the boys had had little or no previous experienceg but, even so, this year's league set some records that future members will find hard to beat. The best bowlers from the league formed a team of their own and bowled with the Men's Booster League. The JBC was sponsored by William Smith, chemistry teacher. They met on Saturday mornings. GI Jets Como in lOl Buy a personalized balloon, buy a GI sweatshirt, buy some home-made fudge or a dance ticket! Those sales girls you heard many times during 1953-54 were none other than the GI Jets. This corps of girls-93 strong-in purple skirts, white sweaters, and purple and gold beanies made up the novel card section during the football season. One night the spectators in the east stands saw the card section spell out Grand Island letter by let- ter. On Halloween they saw them make a pumpkin in orange and black, and always there was a friendly Hi done on the flash cards to greet the opposing team. The club sponsored the football dance, with the theme, Out of This World, and the basketball dance which centered around a circus theme, to conclude each sports age th irly season. Each Tuesday noon, the Jets, excused from classes early to eat, gathered in the auditorium promptly at 12:10 for a short, snappy meeting. Thursday after school, they practiced long and hard on the flash cards and with the cheerleaders. The sponsor for the Jets was Miss Barbara Hershberger who worked with Miss Virginia Guhin, sponsor for the cheerleaders. The annual spring banquet and dance was held May 8, at which time the new of- ficers were crowned and the will and prophecy read. With this final event, Sally Carter, president: Barbara Kelley, vice presi- dent, and Anita Krohn, secretary-treasurer. brought the 1953-54 GI Jets in for a final landing after a very successful flight.
