F. BUILDING E Phone A Each guest located his plate by searching for the football with his name. These footballs contained beautiful verses embodying the various phases that made the player famous. After supper the toastmaster, Coach , proved to be a master of both wit and oratory, and in introducing the speakers for the evening, the psycological effects of his funniegrams held everybody at the highest point of enthusiasm. One of the important functions of the evening was the election of a captain for the 1917 squad. The unanimous choice fell to the Plunging Demon , Louie Goldenstein. The efficiency of Goldie has already been shown during his three seasons with the Oval Booters. Morrow introduced in turn: Assistant Coach Taft, Captain Lowry, Captain Elect Goldenstein, Hahn, who spoke in behalf of the senior mem- bers of the sport, and Button, who delivered his address in behalf of the Watchful Waiting players. The only factor which prompted a departure was the early morning hours, and mental images of the oncoming classes. Basket Ball Banquet. The city Y. M. C. A. gave a banquet in honor of all teams and players of the City League basket ball. Our school is represented in this league by the Preps , who are now leading the league and contending for the championship. Tal Smith was toastmaster and took advantage of his time by using all the comebacks available concerning his former basket ball coach, etc.

W. C. A. Hike September 16. Every year the Y. W. C. A. girls walk to some secluded spot, eat too many wienerwursts and saunter wearily back home. That's what hike means. This fall we went to Rentfrow Grove and fafter Doll's arrivalj roasted half of each Wiener and ate the other half raw, that is, if the Whole Wiener didn't fall into the fire. After that we played New York and Bos- ton. All of the girls enjoyed being children again. As soon as it began to grow dark We came back to the dormitory, tired? No, ready for another hike. College Reception September 19. On this, our first Monday night, we all were recepitioned in the Col- lege chapel-an annual occurrence. The receiving line included President G. W. Taft, Mrs. Robert Taft, Dr. and Mrs. Elmore, Dr. and Mrs. Suther- land, Miss Boomer and Miss Pinder. Several of the Conservatory faculty entertained us with music and readings. Mr. John Gekas welcomed the new students, to which welcome Miss Marjorie Scoville responded. Dr. Elmore greeted the student body in behalf of the faculty, making every student feel that he was wanted-yea, really needed in Grand Island College. A most enjoyable evening was spent in getting acquainted, after which light refreshments were served. Football Banquet. Freshmen Party October 31. On Halloween those Freshmen who didn't have dates some place else, decided to rid themselves of their surplus energy in an entirely original way, by sneaking off to some unknown spot and having the time of their lives . Having bribed Professor and Mrs. Morrow to chaperone them, they proceeded to the cottonwood grove east of the Home, where they fed them- selves on bread and oleomargerine with ham and eggs a few hours later as desert. At 10 o'clock sharp they returned to the dormitories to be greeted by the aromatice fumes of H2S. Football Team Entertained by Athenians. On November 25th the Athenians entertained the football team. The feature of the evening was a photoscope lecture on the deeds of the team and other Grand Island Collegers. We saw two-year-old Gravy, Bud's other girl, Hahn with his Sunday smile, Darling Debs , Holtz with his mustache, and innumerable other have beens . After the reminiscent scene a two-course lunch was served in the dining-room of Hibb's Hall. Several attempts at toasts were made, but no one seemed inspired to say anything, and Tilley and Taylor almost arose to the occasion, but stage fright Cor somethingj overcame them.
