The first two games were lost because we were playing several inexperienced men, but before the season was over we were piling up scores with a rapidity that made the teams of former years take a back seat. To our opponents' 31 points we scored 157. To Coach Morrow we cannot give too much praise. This is his sixth year here and for the first five years his team did not lose a game to a Conference team, thereby having an undisputed claim to the championship during that time. This year he had to make a team out of what was left from last years' team and other men who did not have a great deal of ex- perience. However, after the first two games he had these men showing up like veterans. The back field also deserves considerable praise, they being well expe- rienced men, three of which were veterans from last year's team. Playing well together and being unusually fast, they were able to overcome the difficulty of playing behind a weak line and make a remarkable showing against the best teams in the state. As is usual at the beginning of the season, everything looked gloomy for the team, two stars who were expected back returning and other stars having graduated. For a time an optimistic nran could not be found, but as the games went by, the scores proved that the first of the season does not spell anything for the last. THE GAMES. The first game was with Peru on our home field. They found us in a poor condition to start the season. Charley Horses and ankles kept the speed of the men down some, and it was rumored that they played under a spirit of over-confidence. Anyway, after the final whistle we found our- selves on the short end of the schore, 7 to 9. We are, however, thankful for the experience we got from the game. The next game was with the Quakers at Central City. In this contest we were worse off than in the Peru contest, because one of our strong men was out of the game and a shifting of position was necessitated. However, we showed the Quakers something about the football at that, they were expecting to clean up on us right, and only succeeded in getting away with the game after luck had been with them all through and they ran a bad fumble the length of the field for a touchdown. Score, 7-0. Next we met Omaha on their field. The game was played on muddy ground and this held the score down very much. In this game we just played with them like we did last yearg even our poorest players were good

Left end. 145 pounds. First year. Frank is a little fellow, but he tackles like a man twice his weight. Frank got a chance to show his skill several times this year and it was easy to see his ability. He was a wizard in smashing end runs and ,was fast getting down under punts. We regret that Frank was not able to get out for football before this year. He will make a hard player next year. Percy Button, Perse . 140 pounds. First year. Percy was the lightest man on the squad, but he was by po means the poorest. He was always right there with the pep, and was a sure passer. He was a hard work- Roscoe Owens, Red . Quar- ter-back and end. 140 pounds. Lastyear. Red has put in four years of hard work with the squad and he was always there with the pep. He was the guy that always looked easy to the other team until they pulled a play around him, and then they wondered what had hap- pened. Red's there, that's all. We all regret that his weight kept him from being a regu- lar, and we wish him success as a coach. ' ing man and was regular at practcie. He is willing to learn and with a little more weight he will be more than a star next year.

Outside of repeated fumbling we could say the boys were back in their old form. Score, 28 to 0. ' The next game was with the big Freshmen from the University. When we saw them lined up on the field, we did not think we had a chance, they outweighing us at least fifteen pounds to a man. After the first quarter we decided they didn't have a chance. Two spectacular touchdowns were made and the other three counted just as much. They had to take the small end of a 35 to 0 score back to Lincoln with them. The next game was the big game of the year, we played Wesleyan on our home field. We had been trying to get a game with them for the last four years and this is the first time they would come across. Luck seemed to be against us that day, however, we made a remarkable showing with a score of 15 to 6. The feature of the game was our long end runs which kept the other team guessing all the time. ' We Went to Kearney for the next game, where they were laying for us to get even for the defeat of last year. But we played one of the best games of the season and kept them from even getting a good look at our goal. We could have beaten them worse, but we were willing to let them off with a 46 to 0 score in our favor. Our best asset that day was the for- ward pass, by which the longest gains were made. Taking Hastings on for the final game of the year we showed lots of nerve because they always put up lots of fight. However, this year we could not get any of that fight out of them, they simply let us get away with a 35 to O score. From the first they did not have a chanceg they could make no gains through our lines or around end, and to express it in a few words, we can say that they were simply out of luck . SECOND TE AM. While the second team this year was not as strong as in former years, it deserves much praise. Most of the men came out quite regularly and worked hard. In the lineup it is easy to pick out men that have the quali- fications of stars in years to come, if they will only develop themselves. A second team is essential to a good first team, and for other reasons also, efforts were made to keep the boys out in suits. Only one game was played this year and that was with Wood River High School. The High School was easily outplayed, but our team lacked the punch to put the ball over the line. If it had not been for a neat drop-kick we would have had to be contented with a tie game, but as it was we won and had the satisfaction of knowing that we had everything our way all during the game. Of the bunch, the following did the most to make the second team: Edwards, Owens, Button Bros., Tilly, Wieland, Nicholas, Southard, K. Taft and Richards.
