Class of 1896. It is a pleasure to announce to her many friends that Mrs. Grace Bentley Paine, after some time spent at Cleveland in the inter- ests of her health, has returned to Grand Island greatly improved and hopes soon to be able to resume her social and civic duties. Class of 1898. Miss Grace Abbott, of Chicago, who is well known in this country and others for her work in social service, has been engaged this year in a lecture tour of several large cities, speaking in the interests of the Immigration Bureau, of which she is the director. John M. Caress still continues his agricultural pursuits near Overton, Nebraska. Class of 1898. Dr. C. P. Kirby is the successful and loved pastor of the Elyria, Ohio, Baptist church. Class of 1900. Walter Peterson visited his sister, Mrs. Jackson, of Grand Island, last summer. He is still head of the Greek department of Bethany College, Lindsburg, Kansas. Rev. and Mrs. Elisha Jackson, '02 and '00, are still laboring in the Grand Island field. It is reported that Stromsburg was quite jealous of Grand Island's good fortune in securing them, but surely they rightfully belong here. Mr. Shattuck, of Cairo, visited Grand Island during Assembly Week this spring. J. G. W. Lewis, professor in Wayne Normal, is said to have the bright- est daughter ever, aged four, but it remains to be seen how John Jr., of more recent date, will compete with her.

An agreeable variety to the classroom Work and addresses was fur- nished by the music presented mostly by the College and partly by visitors. The evening sessions were enlivened on one night by the singing of several numbers by the College Glee Club and solos by Professor Haberstro of the Conservatory. Pleasing solos were also sung by Miss Benjamin of the Col- lege, Rev. Allen of the Chapel Car, and Mrs. R. B. Favorite of Beatrice. A basket ball game was also played in the gymnasium for the benefit of the visitors, who attended in large numbers and rooted just like College folks. Meetings of the State Board and the State Five Year Program Com- mittee occupied the time between and after sessions. The Assembly of 1917 has passed into history and its effect Will be far reaching on the Work of the Baptist denomination in Nebraska.

E Class 1901. A. E. Merrifield is still selling city lots and big bargains in Kansas City. Mrs. Blanche Cather Ray, of Grand Island, besides the cares of a busy mother of a busy trio, takes an active interest in Mothers' Club Work and is president of the Platte branch. Arthur Abbott is a successful lawyer of Chicago, Illinois. Alton Robbins, engineer, still claims Alliance, Nebraska, as his home address. Vertie Sears-deceased. Cora Neff Flower-deceased. Class of 1902. Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Hopewell still reside at Waterville, Washington. Mr. Hopewell has returned to private law practice. They have four children. Mrs. Maude Hogue Searson, of Benson, Nebraska, had the misfortune to lose her father during the past year. She is hoping to spend the summer with her sister in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Miss Sabra Abbott is a school ma'am, holding a position in Wood River High School. , Mr. Anthony Rogers still holds his old address, Greeley, Colorado. Mr. Eberly continues to till the soil at Stanton, Nebraska. We are pained to learn, at the time of writing, that Mrs. Minnie Pilling Johnson is very ill at her home in Washington, D. C., We shall hope to hear better news soon. Class of 1903. Mr. L. D. George still continues his business at Broken Bow. Class of 1904. If Hershell A. Hewitt is not still a science professor in Whitworth College, Spokane, we hope he will notify us and excuse it as a geographical error. . Dr. E. H. Sutherland, according to his own tale, is the hardest pro- fessor in William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri. Too bad! Mrs. Georgia Malmsten has changed her address to Richfield, Utah. Rev. Charles J. Johnson continues his ministerial labors at Suprize, Nebraska. Canon Falls, Minnesota, still claims Mrs. Maude Mullin Conley as a resident. Miss Florence Hopewell, after an extended trip in the West, is again at her home in Tekamah, Nebraska.
