New members are selected each year from a try-out arranged by the club. The growing popularity of one act plays, led the Club this year to choose three short plays rather than one heavy production. The Club this year has been under the efficient leadership ship of Mrs. C. G. Ryan. The time she devoted to make the plays a success shows her interest in the College, and this was heartily appreciated by the members of the Club. Mr. John Gekas represented Grand Island College. ef nw Mr. Gekas spoke upon The Fountain of Civili- zation . His oration was worthy of much praise. It set forth the place of experience in civilization . and progress. The thought was deep and to the pq . 3. point, and was clothed in the best of language. The I ,..r- judges awarded him sixth place among the con- testants. Mr. Gekas's efforts are appreciated by 1, ' the College, and we predict a place for him among H I r Mx Pa V 'W ' kg.. X V. 1.'4 I Z the future leading public speakers of our country. by N.4,gi.W'J State Prohibition Contest The prohibition preliminary took place at Grand Island College on March 27th. The speakers for the evening were: Mr. Nyrop, with the oration The Stained Flag 5 Mr. Applegate, The Reformer's Dream g and Mr. Mills, America's Moral Obligae- tion . Mr. Nyrop Was awarded first honors and rep- resented Grand Island College in the state contest which took place at Hastings on April 21st. The judges gave Grand Island fourth place. The colleges represented at this meet Were: Grand Island, Omaha Theological Seminary, Wesleyan, and Hastings. l I
