Atheniansl Athenians! Rah! Rah! Rah! The Athenian Literary Society was organized in 1900 by a select group of students, who saw the need of another society. Every year there was an increase in membership, and in 1906 the society was incorporated. In 1908 it was found necessary to divide the Society into Senior and Junior depart- mentsg the College students comprising the Senior section and the Academy and Commercial, the Junior. Owing to talent and enthusiasm manifested in both societies, rivaly was strong in debating and other forensic activities. The Athenian Society has produced all winning orators in both State Oratorical Association and State Prohibition League. Meetings are held every Saturday night. The programs consist of many varieties of literary and musical talent. This year We have added many to our membership, all of whom are proving themselves loyal Athenians. Our prospects for next year are the very best, as a large majority of our members are new students.

Majne Anderson From Greek History We learn that the Amphictyonic Council of the olden days had a noble, manifold purpose for its existence, such as promot- ing social union and a spirit of brotherhood. The modern American Am- phictyon Society of Grand Island College also has high and fnie ideals. To develop Well-rounded Christian characters is its aim. The meetings held on Saturday evenings, in a hall belonging to the Society, are lively, helpful hours spent in debates, musical numbers, readings, and all sort of literary efforts, with a jolly social time now and then. I This year the Constitution was revised, and copies for all members were printed and distributed. Wlhen an Amphictyon understands the laws of his society he cannot help but be proud to belong to such a noble com- pany. The lives of the early workers in our band are such as we can look up to with admiration. Our diamond shaped blue and gold pins are a wel- come sign to former Amphictyons and a beckoning signal to our future members. These pins stand for our successes and failures Cbound to comel, our rivalry and fellow feeling to our sister society, the Athenian. Besides an occasional joint program with them, we have a splendid picnic together, sometime in.May at Schimmer's Lake, a good hayrack ride's distance from the College. This year's Work in the literary society consisted of a number of uni- fied programs. In these the entire evening was held to an outstanding title or character, and each person taking part in the program developed a dif- ferent phase of the topic in question. These programs included Shakes- peare, Riley, Senior Special,'l and Patriotic numbers. They -were care- fully planned by the program committees, and all met with marked approval. Here's to the Blue and the Tan. A-A-A-M-P, I-I-H-HLI-C, T-T-Y-O-N3 Amphictyon.

W. C. A. Many new recruits were added to our number at the beginning of the year. VVE number about thirty now. The annual Y. W. C. A. hike was given the first week of school. The weekly meetings held on Wednesday afternoon have been practical helps to the girls. Every girl has proven her- self an able leader. Miss Lynch visited us November 20th, and she gave us many new ideas. Miss Crissman visited us February 6th and gave an in- spiring talk to a company on the World Wide Guild. The social service com- mittee has made many calls on the old ladies at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. The Christmas box was filled with holiday gifts. Just before the Christmas holidays they had a Japanese art sale, from which they realized a net sum. This money was used for our pledge to the Y. W. C. A. missionary. Miss Sheaff attended the conference Y. W. O. A. conference at Geneva last summer, and Miss Hall attended the conference at Estes Park. These are not all the things we have done this summer, but just mere mention of a few of them. Our purpose, however, we believe has been fulfilled. The purpose of the association shall be to unite the women of the in- stitution in loyalty to Jesus Christg to lead them to accept Him as their per- sonal Saviorg to build them up in the knowledge of Christ, especially through Bible study and Christian service that their character and conduct may be consonant with their belief. It shall thus associate them with the Kingdom of Godg it shall further seek to enlist their devotion to the Chris- tian church and the religious work of the institution.
