Taft, rendered excellent numbers. Some of the best numbers of the program were the readings by Mrs. Josephine Taft. These gave variety to the entertainment, and people show- ed their appreciation of them by innumerable encores. Her voice of rich quality and dramatic instinct makes her characters fairly live before her audiences. The club was also fortunate in having Fay Cramer and Gordon Taft with it. These gentlemen gave a negro comedy sketch which was greeted with great applause. As an accompanist, Miss Marie Lindberg with her rare musical training, was invaluable to the club. Her piano solos were especially well received. Mr. James Stockwell has had much exper- ience in band and orchestra work, and his cornet solos were far above the standard. It is hoped that most of the members of the club will return next year, and that the club may be permitted to fill more engagements than it filled his year. Majne Anderson From Greek History We learn that the Amphictyonic Council of the olden days had a noble, manifold purpose for its existence, such as promot- ing social union and a spirit of brotherhood. The modern American Am- phictyon Society of Grand Island College also has high and fnie ideals. To develop Well-rounded Christian characters is its aim. The meetings held on Saturday evenings, in a hall belonging to the Society, are lively, helpful hours spent in debates, musical numbers, readings, and all sort of literary efforts, with a jolly social time now and then. I This year the Constitution was revised, and copies for all members were printed and distributed. Wlhen an Amphictyon understands the laws of his society he cannot help but be proud to belong to such a noble com- pany. The lives of the early workers in our band are such as we can look up to with admiration. Our diamond shaped blue and gold pins are a wel- come sign to former Amphictyons and a beckoning signal to our future members. These pins stand for our successes and failures Cbound to comel, our rivalry and fellow feeling to our sister society, the Athenian. Besides an occasional joint program with them, we have a splendid picnic together, sometime in.May at Schimmer's Lake, a good hayrack ride's distance from the College. This year's Work in the literary society consisted of a number of uni- fied programs. In these the entire evening was held to an outstanding title or character, and each person taking part in the program developed a dif- ferent phase of the topic in question. These programs included Shakes- peare, Riley, Senior Special,'l and Patriotic numbers. They -were care- fully planned by the program committees, and all met with marked approval. Here's to the Blue and the Tan. A-A-A-M-P, I-I-H-HLI-C, T-T-Y-O-N3 Amphictyon.
