During the year our council put a mail box in front of school, sent representatives to the district meeting, organized a reserved student cheering section at football games, many pep assemblies, a Varsity Club, a school paper, a Spring Carnival, the Saturday Nite Club, an honor study hall, and a nevv Student Council constitution, The Student Council this year vvorked hard and did a fine iob in governing the student body. A. A. began playing volleyball in the tall under the management of Judy Rice. As winter drew near basketball teams were organized, and Pat Grabowski assumed the position of manager. We also had class tournaments with one senior team, two iunior teams, and three sophomore teams. When the basketball season came to a close, badminton took over with Joan Voss in charge. Then baseball teams were chosen with Jane Thoma as captain. We earned our money by selling candy bars at the basketball games and by sponsoring a dance after the Holland Christian basketball game. On March 17th we used some ot this money tor a swimming session in the pool. We gave Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets and sponsored a CARE package. We all worked hard on the district meeting which was held here. The minutes ot the last meeting were read by secretary, Jim Smith, and the treasurer's report was given by J, C. l-lowe, until he resigned and was succeeded by Don Winterhalter. The motion to operate the refreshment stands and handle the programs at the football games was passed at the hrst meeting. This protect proved to be the large money maker ot the year. Two dances proved successtul, and two booths in the annual Buccaneer Carnival were lots ot fun. Our biggest contribution ot the year was S300 for a sound system in the recreation room. Meetings were held once a week, and occassionally out- side speakers were invited to give messages. During the year various activities were held, such as hayrides and hymn sings. Our president, Druvvaldis Liepens, and our vice-president, Paula Mierle, were general chairmen ot the Homecoming testivities, with treasurer, J. C. Howe, on the tinancial end. Barb Jackson, as secretary, kept our records. Members of Thespians presented a play entitled A Cup ol Tea. Student directors and corresponding plays tor the One-Act Festival were Bob Petersen, The Monkeys Paw , J. C. Howe, A Cup ot Tea , and Donna Wickham, Gallant Lady. These plays were supervised by our advisor, fvir. Hal Chastain. An exchange assembly was backed by the Thespians. On February l9 the group attended As You Like It in Grand Rapids. During March we took part in the Annual World Day ot Prayer service held in Grand Haven. On April 2 vve were host to over six hundred singers from the Festival ot Vocal Music. We sang at the Easter assembly and the Memorial Day services at Kelly Park. Singing at school assemblies and sponsoring tvvo dances and a spring concert with the orchestra concluded our many activities. Our president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer were Bob Dykman, Fred Pelton, and Anita Vanden Berg respectively. During the year we have worked hard at the hospital and in class. Our biggest project was the trip to Chicago which we shall always re- mernber. Mrs. Van Til took over the class for the second semester. At a lecture in Muskegon we learned how to take better colored pictures. We had movies, have studied pictures sent us by Eastman Kodak Company, and have taken many pictures ourselves. We have enjoyed the new darkroom which has been very helpful in developing our pictures. Selecting pictures tor the National Scholastic Contest and studying copies ot the award winning pictures have been an added accomplishment this year.
