Every- where could be seen rolls of parchment, which I judged were probably the manuscripts of the ancients. Could there possibly he bits of information in any of those ancient manuscripts? Picking one up at random, I found it to be the history of the Class of 1927. The writing was scarcely discernible, but 1 was able to read as follows: 53 After spending the first few weeks in becoming accustomed to our surroundings, and getting acquainted with the faculty, we began our Freshman class activities with enthusiasm. The election 1 of class officers was our first activity and VVard Nessen was chosen president. We were repre- sented both on the football and basketball teams. Two of our classmates participated in the Lora A. Smith Declamatcry Contest and one of them received honorable mention. Under the careful guidance of Miss VVells, as patroness, we were led safely through our Freshman year. With the first stretch of our journey at an end, we found ourselves as Sophomores. Members of our class were on football and basketball teams. Two of our classmates took part in the Declamatoiry Contest and one of our number was on the debating team. The biggest social event of the year was the party given us by the Freshmen. In 1925 as Juniors, we were upper classmen. VVe felt very important for we could now associate with the dignified Seniors. At our first class meeting we elected Marion Sherwood president and Miss Addison patroness. As Juniors, we were especially well represented in athletics with two members on the girls' basketball team, four on the boys', and seven on the football team. On April I5 and I6 we presented our class play, ffHonor Bright, which was a huge success in every way. This success was largely due to the patience and perseverance of our patroness, Miss Addison, who directed it. Clarence Van Lopik added to the laurels of our class by winning the Lora A. Smith award and Walter Swier, another Junior, was given second I place. We were again ably represented on the debating team. In june we bade Adieus to 1 the Seniors at the junior-Senior reception. All too soon our Senior year drew nigh. We decided to make our last year the most successful of our four years in High School. At our first class meeting, Miss Addison was again chosen as our patroness, and Clarence Van Lopik, as our president, to guide us through our 'last -year. An annual board was later electedwwith Ward Nessen, editor-in-chiefg MHHOH' Sherwood, business managerg and Miss Bell, our Annual Advisor. Several of our classmates portrayed their histrionic ability in our class play, ffKempy, which was presented March 3 and 4. It was an 'fall around success and highly commended by those who saw it, and the finances will make possible a class gift. Our former pride in athletics was upheld by having Steven Sluka as captain of both the football and basketball teams on which there were several other l Seniors. Three of the Senior girls were on the girls' basketball team. We were ably represented on the debating team by four of our members. VVe entertained the juniors by the customary party, and they in turn bade us farewell at a very lovely reception held in our honor. Night had fallen and I was alone in the castle with my reveries. Time had advanced and Q the class of I927 had long since passed through the portals of the medieval castle.
