A COACHES SALUTE Known and loved throughout the entire school Coach Ward Curtis and his assistant Del Ford have spurred the Red Devils on to victory in 1969. Thses two men have combined their efforts to put out a team that will be remembered through Grand County High School history. Long hours of practice made a group of outstanding boys into an outstanding team. Still the boys could not have made a team by themselves, they needed a coach to guide them. WE SALUTE YOU THE BASKETBALL COACHES OF 1969 25 Roy Brown, Billy Manzanares, Brent Jacobs, Mike Corbin, Jeff Cowan, Sam Scarf. Fourteen individuals working together made the G. C. H. S. Cagers the team they are today. Each individual spent many long hours practicing after school in an attempt to attain perfection in basketball skills. The 1969 Cager will long be remembered at G. C. SUEJENSEN SENIOR ATTENDENT P T' Tonya Scorozato Junior Attendent pv A very popular personality at G. C. H. S. , Tonya is a dependable worker and good all-around student. Tonya made a grand representative from the Junior Class. $ '2rsr UK A J- Sue would be a valuable asset to any school. Joy to the World is Sue's theme song, and it suits her perfectly. She's a very happy girl, who's truly on-the-ball. The class of '69 chose a truly outstanding person to represent them at their last Homecoming. Pam was a vivacious addition to G. C. H. S. this year. She walks down the halls with a sunny smile for all. It's no wonder Pam was everyone s choice for Sophomore Royalty. PAM WHITNEY SOPHOMORE ATTENDENT The 1968-89 Homecoming Royalty was escorted by Seniors Richard Green, Richard Bohannon, Brent Jacobs, and Mike Raymond throughout the entire week of Homecoming. One of the most endearing moments of the Queen’s Assembly starts when the young flower bearers make their way slowly across the gym floor. The ex- pression on their faces tells the whole story of ’’ONCE UPON A TIME” A truly nostalgic moment and the highlight of the Homecoming is the crowning of the Queen at her assembly. Queen Carla patient- ly waits as her escort Brent Jacobs places the crown on her head. Thespian Club Float, 1ST Place ONCE Royalty Float UPON Sophomore Class Float TIME. . . Gasps of delight and a few tears shed as the lovely Queen and her Attendents were presented at the Queen's Assembly. DAISY MAE and LIL' ABNER. This year the com- petition for Daisy Mae and Lil1 Abner was especially tough. The Class of 70 won the competition with Pam Bailey and Chuck Zimmerman. HAWKINS. SADIE HAWKINS November 23, 1968 Everyone had a great time at SADIE HAWKINS. Perhaps the best time of all was had by these two characters, Denice and Carla. 63 One of the standard items at every SADIE HAWKINS is the - JAIL-. All the kids spent their hard-earned cash trying to get friends and enemies alike into the clink. SNOWBALL ’69 The class of 69 took less than 24 hours to trans- form the plain ol gym into a wonderland of cranberry and pink. The Brohms, of Murray, were backed by a splendid castle as they proved themselves to be one of the best bands ever hosted by G. C. H. S. Carla Samples and Curtis Halls, snowball Co-Chairmen, deserve a note of thanks for making Snowball 69 ah Unforgetable affair. The night of December 21 will be long remembered by all. 64 Perhaps the most important event of the entire evening was the announcement of the Snowball Royalty. The winners were kept secret until intermission. King Tony Fratto and Queen Marilyn Foy made a regal couple as they reigned over Snowball '69. A NIGHTTO REMEMBER Snowball '69 was the last formal dance the Senior Class of 1969 will sponsor. The entire class tinned out to make their last dance an affair to remember. The outstanding decorations left a definite impression on everyone. Snowball '69 was one of the best attended dances in the history of G.C.H.S. All the in- gredients needed to produce a successful dance and memorable night were in 'ol Grand High on December 21st. 65 This year F. H.A. sponsored a Freedom Week to pro- mote a better appreciation of the freedom we take for granted. The week's festivities included a Free- dom Assembly with a distinguished speaker from the Armed Forces plus a patriotic reading and the Pledge every morning. The March of Dimes Campaign was featured by an assembly. A film on pre-natal care and a representative from the March of Dimes high- lighted the assembly. March of Dimes Queen Janie Keogh was elected by dime-a-votc bal- lots. She was honored at a special dance, and her picture will appear in a national publi- cation. FREEDOM WEEK 66 JUNIOR PROM CO-CHAIRMAN 1969 The biggest job undertaken by the Junior Class is preparing for their prom. This year the people in command are John Snow and Diana Foy. It is no wonder these two outstanding individuals were chosen for this position. They are known throughout the school as hard workers. The class of 70 promises an elegant prom. THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESENTS Prom is a memorable occassion for all Juniors, and Love Is Blue was no exception. Junior Prom '68 turned out to be the most beautiful dance G.C.H. S. has ever had the priviledge to present. Highlighting the magnificent decorations was a large white foun- tain in the far end of the gymnasium. The only lights needed to show off the elegant blue decorations were three large chandeliers. The class of '69 is justly proud of their prom. “LOVE IS BLUE” Every year the Junior Class looks for- ward to presenting their promenade. The class of '69 was no exception. They started planning and practicing long before the actual time for the promenade. Soon all the Juniors knew the entire song by heart. Love Is Blue was perfectly suited for the graceful moves in the promenade. Never will there be a promenade to equal DOVE IS BLUE . There is something extra special about dancing at Prom. No other dance has the stirring excite- ment of your Junior Prom. Every Junior girl is wearing an elegant long formal, and the boy's are dressed in the especially attractive dinner jackets. Everyone remembers their Prom for a lifetime. JUNIOR PROM 1968 Robbin is a very cheerful and responsible person. She especially enjoys all athletics. A good all-round student, Robbin accepts responsibility well. Shown below, she discussed one of the problems of planning activities with Mike. Robbin justly deserves the title. MR. AND MISS G.C.H.S. Brent Jacobs And Robbin Downard Presenting Mr. and Miss G.C.H.S. of 'ol Grand High. These two people are chosen as the best all-around students. The entire student body votes, making Mr. and Miss G. C.H. S. truly representatives of the entire school. A salute to you, Brent and Robbin. 1 This is our Mr. G.C.H.S. Happy,go- lucky, Brent thoroughly enjoys himself, no matter what he happens to be doing. Brent stands way above the crowd at 6'2 , a definite asset on the basketball court. Our Mr. G. C. H. S. is a truly outstanding person. 70 Robert A Tomsic, Clerk. . Dalton, Member; C. Robert Sundwall, Superintendent;]. G. Pinkerton, President; Marge Vice President; Bill Meador, Asst. Superintendent; Earl Blank, Member; Elmer Dravage, These outstanding individuals make up the governing board of the Grand County School District. Despite the fact that they meet only once a month, they work full time. The entire group works continuously to improve the educational facilities in our district, and too promote better understanding between students and ad- ministration. The community has a voice on the school board through the representatives from their district. Moab can right- fully be proud of the education it's providing for their youth. The school board is continually at work to provide the educational improvements that have become a reality. SCHOOL BOARD 72 DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION Superintendent: C. Robert Sundwall This man is primarily responsible for the ac- tivities of our entire school district. He's a man of great integrity and endless vitality. Mr. Sundwall has upgraded the general atmosphere of the education in Moab. This year he was instrumental in obtaining the Utah Symphony for the listening pleasure of the students in our schools. He is the key to the education of Moab's youth. Asst Super. Bill Meador No man can stand alone, he must rely on his assistants. Mr. Meador is one of those indispensible assistants. Yet he can't be classified as just an assistant, he plays a very important role in the education of Moab's youth. He understands young peo- ple and their problems. Mr. Meador is always willing to do whatever he possibly can, to help the young people in Moab's schools. Due to this outstanding individual, education in Moab has taken a tremendous upward lift. 73 PORTRAIT OF OUR PRINCIPAL. . . A new man came to guide our school this year. A man with high ideals and firm convictions, but a fair man. This man made our school a place to grow in mind and spirit. He made the Home of the Red Devils a wonderful place to attend classes, and participate in extracur- ricular activities. This year at G.C.H.S. enjoyed an over abundance of school pride thanks to this man. 74 Mr. Teeples has earned our love and respect. OFFICE STAFF Mrs. Mikesell has a tremendous job, obviously too much for her to handle all alone. So a select group of students help her out. They are in charge of running errands, collecting absentees, and many more important jobs. They're a valuable assest to Mrs. Mikesell and the school. This poses several interesting questions, chiefly, of course, is - what to do with it? There are many interesting possibilities. Probably no one would notice if they were to slip in an extra auto- graph page here. Or maybe they could cleverly arrange some candid photos in the blank page. The ingenious yearbook staff could no doubt come up with innumerable ideas to constructively do away with this blank page. But still we are faced with inevitable problem of the worry this will inspire in many sopho- mores. Adding to the already insecure nature of the average sophomore we have this page. It will undoubtedly start disturbing trains of thoughts like: What if I had been scheduled to be on this page? Or picture the unrest in his mind as he sits with narrowed eyelids and considers: I wonder if this is a chop at the Sophomore Class? Or even more destructive lines of thought. Well Sophomores, this isn't a chop so don't have any destructive thoughts. It just happened this way and there is nothing we could do about it!! President.......... Vice President . . .
